Taxing sweet snacks may bring greater health benefits than taxing sugar-sweetened drinks. A 10 percent tax on sweet snacks could lead to a similar reduction in consumer demand as taxing sugar-sweetened drinks. Source 4p.

I don't see taxing snacks as being a solution. When someone gets a sugar craving they will pay whatever to get their sweet tooth satisfied.

I agree with Getrich, its just like alcohol and cigarettes… no matter how much you raise it by people still buy it with only a few here and there curtailing their habit.

Stuff Sweet Tax

Rather than taxing sweets to attempt reduce demand, try lowering costs on healthy alternatives. As long as junk food is cheaper than healthy options, there will be more demand, but raising prices is not a solution - it'll just make people poorer.

Sugar on its own is cheap enough, if you tax people on commercial sweetened goods they will just make their own.
