Does keeping your hand on the gear stick put an unnecessary strain on the gear shiftier that can later lead to problems?

Problems Stick Gear The Hand Keeping Does

Only on standards, and only if you are applying pressure enough to contact the shifting mechanism inside the transmission. Even so, it's not significantly going to affect the wear and tear on the transmission, but it may eventually (After years) make the shifting looser. It also depends on the design of the manual transmission.
