Baseball In London

I first went to the USA (Live in UK) in 2015, and decided to go watch a baseball game. I went to Yankee Stadium, and fell in love with a new sport! I've kept an eye on the Baseball scores for the last 3 years since - checking the Yankees score has been the first thing I've done each morning during the season for the last three years. This year, in June, the Yankees and the Red Sox are coming to play 2 games in London, and I'm really excited to be going to both games!

I know that many people dislike the Yankees, for the same reasons that many in the UK dislike Manchester United, or Chelsea Football Clubs - they're successful and therefore people often choose to support them because it's nice to support a winning team. People change allegiances to the next winning team, and that annoys a sport's genuine fans, so often the most successful teams are the most disliked by fans of other teams (As well as the obvious jealousy thing). So when I speak to americans about baseball and mention being a Yankees fan, I sometimes feel like I get judged as a "Glory-follower". But the reality is that the Yankees are the first team I ever went to watch, and I've checked on their results and supported them every game ever since.

I don't really have much of a point here. I'm just really looking forward to taking my dad to London to watch the baseball.

I like that we're all unique, and part of what makes us all different is that we're interested in different things. So I'm wondering, do you like sports? Which sports are your favourite, and what is it about them that makes you love them?

I didn't know baseball was that popular over there. I thought the thing there was cricket or whatever you call it. Do you all have a baseball league too?

No, you're right. Baseball isn't very big over here at all - that's why MLB have organised a 2-game series between the Yankees and Red Sox in London - to try and increase the profile of the game over here. But I suspect that the majority of people who will be getting tickets are people like me, who already are fans of the game - probably also from seeing games whilst on holiday over there.

Tickets completely sold out within a few days of going on sale, but with a lot of bad press, because of the way the administration of ticket sales went ahead. It was all done through ticketmaster, with nothing significant in place to stop ticket touts from getting their hands on the majority of tickets. So my dad and I paid £60 per ticket, and within minutes of tickets going on sale, tickets within the same price bracket in the same area were on sale at a minimum of £240 each via third party sites like viagogo and stubhub. The most expensive tickets in the stadium went on sale for £390, and are now only available for £6,975 via those same sites! Thankfully, I managed to get our tickets through the official ticketmaster sale, at the correct price, but only because I have a job that gives me the flexibility to sit and constantly check the website for an hour in the middle of a Thursday morning. Many people who are teachers, etc, who weren't able to do that, couldn't get tickets as they were sold out by the time they could even check.

That's a lot of ticket sales even if it isn't popular. The ticket trolls would only invest that money in a baseball game if they know they're going to get their money back.

Yeah, it's something like 50,000-60,000 seats, but it's a one off, first time it's ever happened, so kind of historic, so I'm sure they'll sell the tickets. And it's not until June, so I suspect they're keeping the prices high for now, just after people have seen how quickly it sold out and may be willing to pay crazy prices for a ticket, and they have plenty of time to reduce prices later.

Ticket hawks are everywhere and the online buy outs don't help people. There should be a limit on how many tickets one person can purchase to prevent that. Good luck with your game over there.
