$100,000 For Dirty Pool

One Florida homeowner was fined $100,000 for a stagnant pool and overgrown grass. How much is too much? The U.S. Supreme Court ruled this year that cities and states can’t impose excessive fines. But how big does a fine have to be before it’s excessive? A seaside city in Florida hit homeowners with tens of thousands of dollars in fines for violating codes about overgrown yards and disgusting pools. Ref. USAToday.

That would deter any normal home owner to make sure their place is in order. It may look simple but your pool can be a breeding ground for insects which in turn affects people in the area.

I'm all for enforcing home owners to keep the area nice and up to par, but the amount they're taxing people is really out of control.

Pool Dirty

You're saying its excessive but if a homeowner gets many warnings and ignores them AND their property is causing the breeding of mosquitoes and wildlife that put the area at risk then the state should take away their property and fine them as far as I concerned.
