Washington Nationals

Formerly known as the Montreal Expos, the Nationals are finally in a city where their fans respect them and support them. The Expos were in a bad situation just 2 years ago, with fan attendance at all times low, and having two home stadiums, one in Puerto Rico. These days they have a new park in Washington, DC, and have also improved their lineup dramatically. They lost slugger Vlad Guerrero but added young talent such as Nick Johnson and Alfonso Soriano. The Expos/Nationals have only been to the playoffs twice, 1994 being the most recent, so look for this young improved team to make a push in a tough NL East division.

What was even tougher about their situation is that they didn't have a bad team, the fans just didn't care. Most Canadian fans like the Toronto Blues Jays, so its good they left to a place that someone else cares about their play.

MLB finally makes choice, will sell Nationals to Lerner's group

QUOTE
At long last, Major League Baseball picked someone to buy the Washington Nationals, choosing a group that's led by real estate developer Theodore Lerner and includes former Atlanta Braves executive Stan Kasten

Baseball bought the then-Montreal Expos in 2002 for $120 million, and eight groups entered the bidding process more than a year ago. In the end, Lerner's group was selected over those headed by former Seattle Mariners owner Jeffrey Smulyan, and by Fred Malek and Jeffrey Zients, the heads of the Washington Baseball Club, which worked for years to bring a big league club to the capital.

I was glad to hear that a private group had finally bought the Nationals. It was too much of a risk for the league to own of the teams. This will also ensure that proper investments are made with respect to the team and their stadium; something that the league would never have invested in.
