Rowan the Knight

I am Rowan, son of L'eonard and Tess. My mother was skilled weaver. My father was a master weapons smith whose skills rivaled that of the dwarven masters. Alas I never knew my father because he was lost in one of the Barons wars, fight to protect his family and his home.
When I was born my mother gave me the name both she and my father had chosen for me, Rowan, after my Great Grandfather Rowan Gray. My Mother always I had his brown eyes and muscular build, same as my father did. However, I inherited her raven black hair and tan completion which gives me a comely but not noticeable appearance.
As for my interests, well like my father I was intrigued by forging of ores and melts. Scarcely a day went by that I was not at the town smith watching and studying the smithy's craft. And it was their that I picked up another fascination, one of the swords. Not just in the creation of this fine weapon but also to one day have the ability effectively use one like my father did. It was this passion that inspired my friends give me the nick name of the Knight. I was not really a fan of the nick name for a knight was one whom had proven himself in battle and had the years of experience to use a weapon. However, when I told them this, they only laughed, and continued calling be the knight and so the name stuck. But these where not the only things that I gained in my time around the forge. I also learned I had a strange affinity to the elements, manly fire, ice, and water. Not really magic to say for a traveling a mage stated that I had no affinity to magic was indeed a simple boring village child. But even so I fell a strange connection to these three elements just I fell a connection to the forge and my want to understand it increases daily.
And that brings us to one of my most pain memories the eve of my most resent birthday and when my dying mother called me to her bed side and told me about my family's true history which should have seamed crazy but because of her dying works and the seriousness of her words I believe it all. She told me that my great grandfather whose name I now carry, was not a commoner but instead a lead of an elite unit of warriors known as the gradians. Their task was to protect the different kingdoms of this land from the dark hordes that lurk on the distant shores form out continent and from each other. And for many years they did so successfully and there was peace. But greed and the want of power will corrupt all who give into their evil desires. And so, an assassination was out head out by my great great uncle Dox who wanted the power that his brother wielded as commandant of the Gradian Core. And he seceded, not suspecting his own bother Rowan put his guard down and Dox struck. But Dox did not just stop at the murder of Rowan no he hunted down and kill all the Guardians who would not join him which few did. And without the Core to keep the kingdoms at peace they soon went to war with one another over land gold or simple hatred of each other. And soon the Gordian Core was long forgotten. But some guardians did survive the calling like my grandmother and mage to make a life for themselves in small villages. But you she said you are unique; you have the same abilities of your great grandfather thought you may not know them yet. So, it falls to you to restore our family's legacy and with those words she pressed a gray amulet into my hands. It was your great grandfathers she said and it when the time is right, and you are ready it will show you the way. Until then learn to use your ability's, sharped your skills so that you will be ready to walk in your great grandfathers' footsteps the footsteps of the Ruler of Kings.

Knight Rowan

A Sentimental Value

On my way out of my family cottage I passed by the old stone fireplace. It is simple thing that my grandfather made out uncut limestone he found in the some of the fields stone. Now it has become weathered with age and the mortar holding it to gather has become crack and is falling apart. However, I have many found memory of me and my mother siting around this old hearth in the dead of winter while she would tell me stories of days long past.
While reminiscing I look up and saw the metal shield that my father had hung above the hearth. The shield was well-crafted but simple in comparison to lavishly decorated shields of most knight's and other members of the nobility. The only thing unique about it was the emblem engraved upon it. The emblem was that of that of a great oak tree whose branches sheltered many different races of people. Many of them knew humans, elves, dwarves, and such. But a few I did not know, and they were the ones hided in the darkest of the tree's limbs and root. When I had asked My mother about this strange shield before she merely told me that father had forged it for her has a wedding gift and told her that is was meant to be her protector when he was not around to protect her him.
With that thought in mind I lifted the dust ridden shield from its resting place above the hearth and began to remove the years of dust off it. It felt good in my hands as if it were always meant to be there and was perfectly balanced thought it was surprisingly light which caused me to wander just how sturdy this shield really was. But know matter this shield was forged by father for my mother and carrying it I carry a part of each of them with me. I then strapped the now gleaming shield to my back and gave one last glace to the simple shelter that had been my home for sixteen years, wondering if I would ever come back. Then I turned and walked out the weather worn front door and closed it behind me.

Advisor Description

Captain Bentley, well the first time I meant him was when I only five years old. It was he who came and told my mother and me that my father had gone missing after a terrible battle against one of the orc clans. At the time I was too young to really understand what was happening but what I do remember was that after talking to the sergeant, for Bentley was only a sergeant at the time, that my mother then fled to her bedroom where I later heard crying come from.
After my mother left Bentley came and sat down beside me and said son, I want you to know that your farther was a great man. Possibly one of the bravest and most courageous men that I have ever known. He saved my life you know, I was cornered by three massive orc warriors, and I thought I was done for. But your father came out of nowhere with that great battle axe of his and cut all three of them down as if they were mere children. I still remember the look on this stern face has he helped me up off the ground. Come on lad the said their more where those three lightweights came from and then he turned and plowed back into the enemy like a charging bull. It was later in the next day when I really got to meet your father and we soon became fast friends. And we both made a promise to each other that if only one of use made it back than the other would look after family. And I intend to keep that promise he said. He then stayed with me a while longer till my mother had composed herself, then he left to find work in the town.
It was from that day on that I always had a shadow watching over me. Whenever I needed him Bentley always seemed to be there at just the right time. Until till around my thirteenth when he was promoted to captain and reassigned to another town. Now he would have left the army and stayed to look after me and my mother but if he had done so he would have been lock up for being a deserter. And my mother convinced him that he would be no good to anyone locked up in and that him being in jail was not what my father would have wanted. But now I am glad to have found him again his wisdom and master of weapons and how to lead and inspire people will be invaluable to me. Thought I don't think he know of my family's past I believe he has always seen my as his son as I have seen him as my father and I believe he will help me in any way he can when the time come to walk in my great grandfather's footsteps.
