Orryn the Mage

Though my name is Orryn, over the years I've heard whispers of people calling me Orryn the Mage when it was thought I couldn't hear. Slowly those whispers became more conspicuous till eventually "Mage" became simply part of my name. I am now at the human age of 19 but started showing interest and skill in magic at an earlier age. As time went by people noticed my longing for the esoteric and eldritch knowledges that most others fear to seek. A few times my explorations into these powers have led to mishaps, sometimes involving an unfortunate passerby or two. Such events I believe is what began the usage of people applying mage to my name. Other than my skills in magic I look fairly ordinary standing at a height of 5' 8" with long dark hair and blue eyes. I don't know if it is power that drives my desire for knowledge and explorations into magic, or if it is the mystery of where the power comes from. One thing I know is that I want to continue to practice and explore these magical powers and maybe one day I can use them to rule and unite the land.

Mage Orryn

A Sentimental Value: Lorica Parchment

As a child engrossed in exploring the arcane arts, it was hard for me to find friends with similar interests. While I was pouring through ancient texts, maps, dusty scrolls, and journals of people long passed, other children my age were practicing swords. Although it was hard, I did manage to find a couple of friends to share my peculiar interests, one of them being Cal.
Both of us being curious, dumb, and bored decided one day to explore a crypt in a cemetery not far from our homes in the woods. We chose this particular crypt simply because it had strange carvings of beasts and constellations on the entrance doors which piqued our curiosity. The lock on the doors to the crypt had rusted over the years and was easy to break so we made our way inside.
Because the room was windowless, we had to light our torches to see past the little light that was let in from the entranceway doors. Our torches showed us a rather large square room filled with all sorts of bizarre oddities.
In the center of the room, covered with a layer of dust was a large stone sarcophagus carved and shaped to match the form of the body of whom it housed. Attached to the sarcophagus where the person's shoulder would be sat a statue of an owl, it perched there as if to keep watch over the person's earthly possessions. I've read many books of wizards who kept animals as familiars, and I wondered at the time if that statue was of a familiar, and if the person in the sarcophagus was once a wizard.
Naturally my eyes were drawn to a book which sat closed on a pedestal, it had the word Lorica written on its front. As I walked over to the book Cal investigated some of the other items lying about the tomb. I began sifting through the pages of what I could only think was a spell book when the room suddenly got colder. Cal must have felt it too as we both looked at each other at that exact moment, then something caught our eyes and we both turned to the wall behind the sarcophagus. A moment ago, it was just a wall made of brick like the others, now a doorway stood where there was none earlier. Only this doorway had no doors, and the space was pitch black. We couldn't see what was beyond the doorway, it was as if the darkness was absorbing the light from our torches, you could feel the cold emanating from it. Then it was almost as if the darkness took on a physical form as an obsidian tendril extended slowly from the shadows, moving with an almost liquid like motion. Before we could react there came a painful high-pitched shriek from the shadows. I dropped the book of Lorica and ran for the exit with Cal following right behind me. We exited the tomb and continued to run. After running for some time we looked back and saw the entranceway to the tomb had succumbed to that same liquid shadow. In that shadowy darkness was a pair of yellows eyes watching us. We continued to run and there came another loud screech from the tomb. We finally stopped running only when we could run no further and we knew we weren't being followed. I didn't realize it at the time but when I dropped the book of Lorica I must have ripped out some of the pages because in my hand were parchments from the book that I didn't realize I had held on to as we ran.
We spent much of our time the next few months trying to decipher the odd writings on the parchments which were made up largely of archaic symbols and drawings of odd beasts. We found that often these symbols would change from one day to the next, though we never witnessed the change happening the drawing would switch to other drawings and the symbols would take the form of other symbols. We scoured texts from anywhere we could find in an attempt to get a clue as to what was on these pages, yet we had no luck. We even went back to the tomb but found it completely empty. At first, we thought the tomb was robbed. But no, the layer of dust on the floor told us the tomb had been empty for many years. This caused us to believe the things we saw that day in the tomb were never there. After some time, Cal began drawing the symbols on the Lorica parchments in perfect detail from memory and even predicting how the symbols would transform days before they would change. It wasn't long after that he seemed to have lost his mind, he would start talking to himself in what sounded like another language, and he would jump at sounds no others heard. Then one day he was gone. Before he disappeared, he would talk of going to the elven kingdom to look for answers, I can only assume that is where he went.
A couple of years passed when finally I received a letter from Cal asking me to meet him at a tavern in town. I was excited to hear from him and curious to find out if he ever traveled to the elven lands, but I was dismayed when upon waiting at the tavern he never showed. Instead, I was approached by the tavernkeeper who told me of a person, I could only assume was Cal, who had given him a case to give to me. I was surprised to find the case contained flawless copies of the Lorica parchments in Cal's handwriting. Taking the parchments, I quickly headed back to my house and compared what Cal had given to me with the original parchments that we found in the tomb. Even after multiple symbols had changed during the time of Cal's absence, the parchments he sent me mostly matched the symbols on the original parchments with their transformations. Although a lot of the symbols matched not all of them were correct. As I sat and stared in wonder an amazing thing then happened, one of the symbols in the original parchment began to change. Its black ink moved in a fluid like motion on the page and when it was done it matched one of the symbols on the parchments Cal sent me, making Cal's more closely resembling the Lorica parchments.
Now that I leave my small home in the woods, I take with me the Lorica parchments. I'm still not sure of their meaning or use but maybe in my travels I will discover those mysteries along with what happened to Cal.

Orryn the Mage Post Play & MMORPG RPG Text

Advisor Description

Shortly after my arrival at the town, I found that the market sells not just food and other needs but they sell all sorts of goods and oddities that would pique my interests. Midday at the market was usually packed with people and this day wasn't any different.

"Orryn" a gruff and stern voice said from behind me. Still being mostly a stranger in this town I was surprised and curious about who would know my name. A feeling of trepidation came over me.

I turned to see a rather tall burley man who's garb and posture clearly declared him as a soldier of sorts. It took a second for me to realize I recognized his face from various other places in town and I immediately thought the person might have been following me.

My face must have given away the question on my mind as he said, "Orryn, I'm sorry I've been following you but I had to make sure it was you. My name is Brey, I was a friend of your parents. Mostly I knew your father. Your parents asked me to watch over you and help you if you ever ventured to town."

Although initially skeptical, I accepted Brey's help after he spoke of things only my parents would know. I might know my way around a library but city life is new to me and I hear it could be dangerous. Having someone familiar to the area and the people can only help. Plus if my parents trusted him then I do too.

Mage Orryn

House of Sorrows

Orryn looks at JB and says the following: "This "curse" isn't the type that has been placed on you by some witch. This Insolitam being which you speak of is a societal point of view and that is the monster which makes you believe you are cursed.

The names of your kids might represent how they act. Anxius might normally be anxious in personality and very active. The name Gailen in my readings I've found to mean fire, this could represent an erratic or angry type of behavior. Or the names could represent how you feel, both anxious and at times angry. If that's the case it is important to remember how your kids are isn't their fault and no matter how hard it is on you, things are much harder for them.

Your kids were born different from what is considered normal. You have no power over that and you're right it can't be cured. You being the creator here helps you as it gives you a feeling of control in a situation where normally you might feel helpless.

I would offer to help but I have responsibilities elsewhere. I can not help you, but I can give advice. If you are in this situation then others must be too. Find them, form a group and help each other. Let them be a part of your family. In this family, find someone you trust who is in the same situation that you are in. Have that person help your kids when you are gone. The only other help I could offer is to send people your way who I meet in the same situation."

Message to Advisor

Brey,

Today I bought a weapon, helmet, shield, backpack, and shoes as you had suggested. I also visited some of the places you suggested and met JB. Tomorrow I will continue doing as you suggest and I also plan to start an assignment or two. I would also like to begin advancing my skills and meet more people in town.

A fellow soldier of kingliness…

Reflections On Your Mother

I remember my mother being kindly and caring. She would do anything for me and I know had had a great childhood because of her. I sometimes don't think about my past but when I do it is usually of happy times.

The Beauty of Lady Fluke

Lady Fluke's beauty is complete
Her features are quite unique
She speaks a little raspy
Which can make a crowd go crazy
Her makeup is very thick and thorough
And her hair color is true, that I tell you
She acts as a proper lady
But her strength is very manly.
