New Report Finds Black, Older, Poor Women More Likely to Have Abortions

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A new report from the research group associated with Planned Parenthood expands on its previous report showing abortions at their lowest point since 1974. The new Alan Guttmacher Institute report finds abortions are more likely to be done on women who are black, older, or lower-income. The good news for pro-life advocates is that the rate of abortion in the United States is at its lowest level since 1974, having declined 33% from a peak of 29 abortions per 1,000 women aged 15-44 in 1980 to 20 per 1,000 in 2004. The new report, which focuses on the trends in the abortion data, presents some concerns. Although abortion rates have declined among all racial and ethnic groups, large disparities persist, with Hispanic and black women obtaining abortions at rates three and five times higher, respectively, than non-Hispanic white women. Between 1994 and 2004, the abortion rate for Hispanic women fell by 20% and there was a 30% decline among non-Hispanic white women. But black women saw the lowest decline -- at 15 percent during the same time period. Black women account for 37% of abortions, white women for 34%, Hispanic women 22% and women of other races 8 percent

On Martin Luther King Day, Blacks Face Racial Challenge From Abortion

As the nation pauses today to remember the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., black Americans face a racial threat from a much different source than the ones King confronted: abortion.
The Guttmacher Institute recently released a new report on abortion statistics nationwide that confirms the abortion industry continues to target black Americans. Abortions on black women still occur at a much higher rate than the percentage of African-Americans in society as a whole.

The Census Bureau, as of 2009, indicates black Americans comprise 12.4 percent of the total population of the United States, but Guttmacher's new numbers reveal approximately 30 percent of the abortions in the United States are done on black women.

Statewide statistic in places with a large share of African-Americans also shows the racial component of abortion.

In Georgia in 2006, 57.4 percent of abortions are performed on African-American women even though blacks comprise just 30 percent of the general population. In Texas, abortions on black women comprise nearly 25% of all state abortions even though they only constitute 12.7% of the female population (ages 15-44). Every other racial demographic shares a smaller percentage of statewide abortions than their respective percentage of total population.

Rachel Jones, a senior research associate at the pro-abortion group and former Planned Parenthood affiliate, admits the average group of women who get an abortion "are more likely to be women of color" and black women "are more likely to have an abortion" than white women. Ref. Source 7

New Video: More Blacks Die From Abortion Than Anything Else

A national coalition of pro-life African-American groups and leaders is back with a new video touching on the racial overtones of abortion and following up to their first video addressing abortion in the context of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

The National Black Prolife Coalition is behind the new professionally-produced video and members of the coalition include Ryan Bomberger of the Radiance Foundation and Dr. Alveda King, the niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The video features a black, red and brown color scheme, pulsating music and captivating images.

"In state after state, and city after city, black lives are in danger," the high-quality video says in a text overlay. "Tragically, deaths outnumber life in the black community. Out of 653,011 annual deaths, the most common cause is not HIV (6,398), respiratory disease (7,830), homicide (8,870), diabetes (12,343), accidents (13,559), kidney disease (17,232), cancer (63,441) or heart disease (63,441). The number one killer of black Americans is Planned Parenthood and the abortuaries that target us."

Abortion (363,705) is then compared to all other cases combined (289,306) in terms of what takes the lives of more African-Americans each year and the video ends with the tag, "Stop Planned Parenthood, bring an end to genocide."

"We"ve been betrayed by black leaders," the video concludes along with naming pro-abortion black elected officials like DC Mayor Vincent Gray, Jesse Jackson, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, Rep. Barbara Lee, Al Sharpton and others, "who"ve sacrificed 15 million babies for political or personal gain. The numbers don't lie. Restore life. Restore hope." Ref. Source 9

Report Proves Planned Parenthood Targets Blacks, Hispanics

A new reported issued by the pro-life group Life Dynamics proves that Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry in the United States target black and Hispanic Americans by placing abortion facilities in communities with high minority populations.

Titled, "Racial Targeting and Population Control," the new report validates the claims pro-life advocates have made for years - and that Life Dynamics made in its groundbreaking Maafa21 video released two years ago - showing that abortion advocates have purposefully placed abortion centers in urban areas with high percentages of black and Hispanic residents.

Mark Crutcher and Carole Novielli conducted the research in the 24-page report and they say the location of abortion centers is the modern equivalent of the population control policies against minorities, especially African-Americans, that Planned Parenthood has supported since Margaret Sanger founded it. The researchers say they prepared the new report to respond to the criticism of the claims abortion advocates have made to the racial charges - and to point out a hypocrisy.

"The initial response to this documentary from people defending these organizations was to claim that they focus their facilities on minority neighborhoods because that is where the need is," they write. "Almost immediately, however, they saw that this argument was creating a problem for them. Simply put, it is incompatible with one of their other arguments."

Abortion advocates have always claimed that their main goal is to reduce unintended pregnancies and, by placing abortion centers and Planned Parenthood clinics in minority communities, abortion backers claimed their focus wasn't promoting abortions to blacks and Hispanics but to help them reduce the number of unplanned pregnancies by promoting birth control and contraception.
