Rick DiPietro's season ended before the New York Islanders' franchise goalie really got a chance to get it going. Lingering persistent swelling and soreness in his left knee that required surgery twice in four months kept DiPietro out for all but five of the team's 46 games this season and led to Tuesday's decision to shut him down.

I hope that he can relax now and work on getting better. I think a few weeks off the knee can do him a lot of good.
