In the Ask Anslem segment of TV6 News a person who was randomly selected for a home since 2005 is yet still to receive a home. The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Marlene McDonald, went into her office today at the HDC building in South Quay with her new permanent secretary. One of the first things she did was to put a stop on giving out houses which includes the last government's 100 houses a week programme. She hinted about refocusing the build up of Port of Spain again.
HDC Changes Requirement
According to a report by TV6 subsidized housing will no longer be available for those making $25,000 or more per month from one household. The prior government had the ceiling at $45,000 per household. The distribution of public housing will resume this Saturday. New subsidies will also be added to make it easier to buy a home.
Dr. Rowley stated the following with regards to HDC housing:
From the time that the PP took over this project they knew they weren't going to give it to the typical HDC applicant. Which HDC project has imported hardwood floors and marble counters? A total wastage of money!
According to CNC3, Sanda Emanuelle "Warrior Princess" was allocated a HDC apartment just before the general election that she saw, signed for and so forth. After elections she wanted to get her keys only to find out that the apartment was allocated to someone else! She made noise outside the HDC office until HDC officers attended to her. Ms. John, HDC Managind Director, promised to address it tomorrow and fix the situation if it was a mistake. Ms. Emanuelle feels it was all politically motivated.
An interesting move! According to TV6 News the top management at the HDC has been sent on administrative leave in order for an investigation to take place in the management of the corporation. Among those sent home: John, Jones and others.
I don't see it as an interesting move. It seems to me they were probably removed temporally (Later on to be removed permanently) in order to put key people in those positions. As always, politics.
