Title: Why T&T is in a bad shape

Comments: Well well well police of T&T, guns and more guns are pouring in daily into T&T, that's a fact. So where are those coming from? You have done some sting operations and have captured thugs with guns, so what make of guns are they? Are they guns that are coming from neighboring Venezuela? Or are they US made guns? US made guns means that your crooked Customs Officials are getting a big cut to have those guns come in - dumb asses! On the other hand Latn Made guns are coming from Venezuela via your unprotected coasts or, allowed to enter the country via your corrupt coast guards and fisher men. Too many guns people and soon those guns will be turned on the way of life of all citizens - a fate waiting to happen. Always good to follow the money - whose is getting rich among the crooks, law enforcement officers, Customs Officers etc., there you will find some clues. In the meantime good look trying to survive!

Comments: The present method of the control of guns on this island will never work as there are too many points of entry to smuggle illegal firearms into this country. The gun trade here is a booming business as shown in the high annual murder rate of which most are committed by the use of the gun. The only solution left now is to increase the penalty for illegal gun ownership to ten years imprisonment. Another alternative which may help to reduced the high amount of guns in circulation is to introduce a buy back scheme, with no questions asked. This may encourage those in urgent need of cash to sell guns whether illegal or not to help in their financial survival. It may, on the other hand, flood the market with a continuous flow of illegal firearms if the buy back price is too high.At least, in the end, it will help in the reduction in the amount of guns in the hands of some of our local criminals.

Comments: Gun controls do NOT work. The old saying- guns don't kill- neither do cars, planes, seas, rivers etc. Individuals are responsible for these 'untimely' deaths. There needs to be an inner and a social awakening of our actions. This is NOT going to be achieved overnight- but it will take generations to re-engineer who and what we have become.
This re-engineering starts with the fundamental teachings and understanding that WE are of one-. Our respect and love for one another. It doesn't say that we MUST agree with each other - only to understand that we see things differently and why this might be so.
Can this basic message ever be taught and understood? Yes it can. Are we willing to try it?- It is for each of us to answer.

Comments: The call by the opposition leader to allow every citizen to have free access to gun here is absolutely crazy. Most citizens here are nor matured enough, nor have the required self- discipline and are too hot headed and ill- tempered to be allowed access to a gun. Here at present, a simple argument between two adults could end up with one on a slab at the mortuary. No, allowing free access to guns here to our citizens is only going to make te situation worse and things will get really out of control and cause internal chaos. Many here are not educated or civilized enough to be trusted with the ownership of a gun. Moreover, since every other avenue have been exploited and failed in an effort to stem the flow of murders here. The only possibly solution now left is to restore the death penalty now, and start hanging those already found guilty of murders, and the majority of our citizens are now in favor of the reinstatement of the death penalty. So what are the politician waiting for?. If this in not done immediately we could all just sit back and watch the daily rate of murders excel.

Comments: Citizens in Trinidad need to be armed! Criminals attacking civilians who cannot defend themselves is totally insane and this is why the crime will continue to rise and more innocent defenseless people will be killed. How can no one see this?! Don't just allow guns to every civilian. Of course, people should have to pass the gun safety tests and apply showing certain criteria met and be above 21 or so. It is possible to stop the crime. If politicians stop being shady and the criminals know that people can defend themselves… they will think twice before robbing and killing because the stakes would be even!

Gun Laws In Trinidad & Tobago

Criminals coming with high powered rifles and the most an ordinary citizen might get is a pistol. They also coming in numbers and will have the element of surprise. So having a gun doesn't make it an equal playing field. The solution to crime is to go after all these gangs and lock them up.

Comments: There are literally.. As opposed to figuratively?

international QUOTE
Thieves and criminals in general here are NOT, I repeat NOT afraid of someone who has a gun because most of the time they're armed themselves with either guns or machetes and they definitely are NOT afraid to use them whether they feel threatened or provoked.

How many cases you know of where a criminal encountered armed opposition and continued their attack? Most times they run like little scared girls.

international QUOTE
I believe you can get a gun as long as you have a license for it.

Speculation.

international QUOTE

..but I don't know the details about how to get one.

Forms are available at the Government Printery, $1.50 for the two. Fill out and deliver to your local police station.

international QUOTE
Sometime ago a businessman visiting a friend in an affluent area in the West was brutally murdered when some thieves entered the house of his friend. He had on his possession a gun

Possession does nothing, use is what counts.

international QUOTE
I believe he tried to use it but he was killed regardless.

Belief is for things that cannot be proven. Don't speculate.

international QUOTE (JB)
On Beyond the Tape, Inspector Alexander showed the below firearm created using a wooden base. It has one round in it. These are the kinds of illegal firearms being circulated around T&T.

Oh how I wish this was true. Thats an example of a broke criminals ingenuity. The average gun toting criminal has a semiautomatic.

The problem with guns in this country is they are too easy to get them in through our porous borders. The police came taking off the streets over 1000 guns and many thousands of rounds of ammunition but if they take off 1000 and they bring in 10,000 in a year what is the point? Customs, coast guard and army should have posts all over this country.
