What do Celestial Beings look like? - Page 3

The book of Mormon prophet Amulek speaks about the eternal state of the resurrected and is clear in saying that the body will be in a perfect state, verse 43 of Alma 11 reads "The spirit and the body shall be reunited again in its perfect form; both limb and joint shall be restored to its proper frame, even as we are at this time", the chapter goes on to talk about the judgement and the eternal state of the now incorruptible immortal beings.

The Apostle Paul also speaks about the resurrection in 1st Corinthians chapter 15, he actually speaks more specifically about the glory of those who are resurrected and the 'three degrees of glory'. Verse 40-41: "There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another. There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory."

Celestial beings will receive a glory equal to that of the sun.

Although a accurate description of the exact nature of celestialised beings is beyond my ability to convey, there are descriptions given in the standard works by those who are special witnesses, one such account is recorded in the 110th section of the Doctrine and Covenants which is a vision manifested to the prophet Joseph Smith and also Oliver Cowdery in the Kirtland Temple, verses 2-3 say: "We saw the Lord standing upon the breastwork of the pulpit, before us; and under his feet was a paved work of pure gold, in color like amber. His eyes were as a flame of fire; the hair of his head was white like the pure snow; his countenance shone above the brightness of the sun; and his voice was as the sound of the rushing of great waters, even the voice of Jehovah,".

This description of the resurrected Christ gives us a insight into the true nature of God, and also those who are resurrected to a celestial glory.

I believe that Tenaheff is expressing better what I was tryign to express.  I believe the 'perfect image' of ourselves begins with our pre-existance and the traits that distinguished each of us.  I also believe that our experiences on earth add to this individuality and there fore it is a combining of all that we were, all that we are in mortality and all the changes that will occur througout eternity.  Even those who are blind have an image of themselves, as well as others.  We have always had identifying characteristics that are part of who we are and will add to who we will become.

Good comments.

I forgot what magazine I saw a computer rendering of Jesus done by some European researchers. The computer generated pictures was very middle eastern. It was nothing like the classical drawings we see in the churches that is was made popular from the European artistic traditions.

Now, according to the Bible, after Jesus was resurrected he visisted several people. Some of whom saw nothing unusual about his physical appearence. I think that they were more shocked by him alive because they saw him crucified and helped buried him.  Some of the recognized him right away. He was the same Jesus. I think that Jesus look very middle eastern, unlike the drawings of him that is popularly depicted in the books and prints. He's not Nordic.

When Joseph Smith saw Jesus in the woods with God the Father, he saw Jesus in His Glorious form - brilliant white - like the sun, or as snow by some writers. I think that physically, we'll look just like what we look today, but in our glorious form - none of this really matter.

We're only talking about the physical bodies, right?  That's just the way I see it.
That just my thoughts. I may be wrong.

Imanua, good points. Yes the 'white' we are speaking of here is the glorifying white, like the sun and not the pink/peach fleshy white. Afterall no one is truly plain white or black or yellow or red, we are in fact shades of colors (those are just color forms given by men to segregate in my opinion). Concerning Jesus, remember that is mother was more fair than any woman, maybe Jesus inherited this too. As far as I understand glory in this world is kept unseen, the natural order of things is really bright, but we cannot stand it, when we die we will see how dark the world is that we live in (think in the temple).

But the word 'fair'could be interpreted as 'beautiful' also? This is a very ancient word and is usually applied to denote beauty not skin color.
