How To Be A Good Friend

Here is something to ponder on:
If one of your friends comes to you with a problem, thought or idea

Would a true friend just listen and support there feelings reguarding their problem thought or idea
or
Would a true friend give advice, different points of view, tell their friend if they disagree with how they are feeling even if it means being rude.

any other suggestions for creating good friendships please apply! wink.gif

Friend Good Be How

Obviously a true friend listens and counsels when is needed it, even if the counsel may be in disagreement with her friend. A true friend is sincere, not a hypocrite wink.gif. Therefore, a true friend stands by the other friend but counsels her to do the right thing.

I think it depends.

If your friend is just venting and not looking for advice or help, it might be good in some cases to just listen. Sometimes a person just needs an ear nothing more. Now, if the person is obviously doing something to make the situation worse then you probably should help them to see that they are making matters worse, but you need to be careful how you do this as well.
Also, if the person continually rants about the same issue and does nothing to change it for the better then it probably would be good to help them see what they can do to make the situation better.

I think the absolute key is to figure out if your friend is looking for advice or just a shoulder to cry on and go from there.
