The good news is that it is radioactive iodine and that has a half life of 8 days. So, if they wait long enough and the source of the radioactivity is controlled things should be alright in a few weeks. If they begin to report radioactive cesium, then it is a bit different story. That has a half life of about 30 years. The only good part is that the body tends to not collect cesium if digested.
However, something definitely happened this weekend. If you look at that radiation map, my area increased by 25%. However, the Ibaraki area doubled to over 2000 for a while. It seems like it is more stable, just not fully stable yet. What I am not sure if is if the rain this weekend might have effected the numbers.

Nuke plant workers rushed to hospital
Local Japanese News In English
Three workers at the stricken Fukushima nuclear plant in Japan have been taken to hospital after being exposed to high radiation, as efforts to restore power to the plant's cooling systems continue. The workers at the site's No. 3 reactor were "exposed to radiation ranging from 170 to 180 millisieverts" in a turbine building, nuclear safety agency spokesman Hideyuki Nishiyama said. An exposure of 100 millisieverts per year is considered the lowest level at which any increase in cancer risk is evident.
