Pentagon wasted $28 million buying woodland camouflage uniforms for Afghan soldiers, new report says. The Pentagon wasted as much as $28 million over the past decade buying uniforms for the Afghan army with a woodland camouflage pattern appropriate for a tiny fraction of that war-torn country, according to the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction. The Afghan Defense Minister picked the pricey, privately owned "Forest" color pattern over free camouflage schemes owned by the U.S. Government, an advance copy of the report obtained by USA TODAY says.
Yeah, this is par for the course. The reason is nothing will happen to the person who messed up. When there is little or no accountability, this is what you get.
Suppose… jsut suppose this was done on purpose so they could be better identified compared to US forces or the Taliban getting hold of the uniforms and then blending in too well that they are hard to target.

Possible but doubtful. After 22 years in the Army I can tell you it's more like a SNAFU than it is a planned outcome. More, if it was planned they wouldn't have reported it as a tens of millions of dollars screw up.
Why we are still in Afghanistan is a mystery to me. There is not going to be a change among the warlords to western ideas so its either we move in permanently and take over like Rome did or get out of there!

Pentagon to answer for $28 million wasted on Afghan soldier uniforms. The Pentagon will be called to account on Capitol Hill this week for its pricey plan to outfit Afghan soldiers in uniforms with a private-label forest camouflage scheme of dubious value in the desert country. Ref. USAToday.
Good, and then let's have them answer for the billions squandered on other stupid projects that haven't borne fruit. But Congress should also look to itself. They routinely add things to the military's budget that the military doesn't want, can't use, and can ill afford. They do this because they are produced in their home state on Congressional district. This is pork. When the military gets these items that Congress rams down their throats they then have to spend money they can't afford and haven't planned for to maintain these items. Politics is politics, but let's try and leave politics out of our national defense… maybe just for once.
