What do you think about 'The Green Mile'?
The first time I saw it I was a bit confussed in the start, but the became delightfully surprised by the message within. A very good movie with so many teachings. One thing I never understood though... who was the big guy? Yes, I know he is MICHAEL CLARKE DUNCAN, but I mean who was he in the movie? An angel? Nah, angels are more forthcoming.

"The Green Mile" is told in a flashback narrated by Paul Edgecomb to his friend Elaine Connelly. Edgecomb is now living in an old-age home some six decades after working as the head guard on Death Row at Cold Mountain Penitentiary.
Edgecomb's tour of duty at Cold Mountain in the Depression-era South included watch over a quartet of killers awaiting their final walk down "the Green Mile," the stretch of green linoleum flooring that took convicts from their jail cells to the electric chair.
Over the years, Edgecomb walked the mile with a variety of cons. He had never before encountered someone like John Coffey, a massive black man convicted of brutally killing a pair of nine-year-old sisters. Coffey certainly had the size and strength to kill anyone, but his demeanor starkly contrasted with his appearance. Beyond his simple, naive nature and a deathly fear of the dark, Coffey seemed to possess a prodigious, supernatural gift. Edgecomb began to question whether Coffey was truly guilty of murdering the two girls.
As the story unfolds, Paul Edgecomb learns that, sometimes, miracles happen in the most unexpected places.
You know until you brought it up, the possibility of him being an angel never crossed my mind. But it is a definite possibility.
I read the book, twice, then saw the movie. Gave me chills, inside and out; and it was most assuredly a full tissue-box tear jerker. Both the book and the movie. Yep I cry and get chills from good books.

I LOVED this movie. Unfortunately, The Green Mile is one of the very few Stephen King books that I do not have in my collection. I would have to read the book too. This movie was just fantastic by far one of my very favorite ones. The ending had me crying and even Shady cried too (although, he said he had somethin in his eyes)
But I never put much thought to who exactly MICHAEL CLARKE DUNCAN's character was. I always thought that he was just one of these special gifts that are here, but never really could explain why's or the how's he came to be.
But it is a super movie and I had to get it on DVD cuz I watched the video tapes so many times that they just didn't work any more
Great movie, and the book explains it all more in depth, as well (but not really the origins of John Coffey). I'm not sure what/who John Coffey was, but certainly had a healing touch and a discerning spirit within him -- I believe there are people on the earth with these things. Not all know what to do with them, and certainly not all acknowledge God's hand in it.
IMO

It's been a really long time since I viewed the movie (or read the book, for that matter). There is always more depth of information within the book, little details that you might not see or notice in the film -- or that were taken out of the story so that the movie is not 8 hours long! There are character insights, conversations between characters, little events that don't get into the movie. (Can you tell I'm a reader, and not much of a "viewer"? )
I can't really think of a "significant" event that the movie misses. I'll have to watch it again

I enjoyed very much this movie; it really touched me. The character of Michael Clarke Duncan - John Coffey made a strong impression on me (of course all the actors played greatly). I don't thing Coffey was an angel, more like he was touched by an angel and that angel gave him a gift. A 2 and 1/2
