Comments: I have USD $20,000 to invest. I can't buy a home outright with that but I'm wondering if I can at least use as an investment towards one and then fix it up and sell. If not I could try something else, what do you guys think?

I'm guessing you are in the US? As far as I know the most you might be able to get with that is land somewhere because even the more broken down houses cost more than US$20,000.

Actually there are houses you can get for under $20,000 but it depends on how much you want to invest into it. For instance are you a builder or house renovator? If you are then you might be able to do it all yourself but it will be a lot of work.

Unless you're talking about a mobile home, I would be very afraid to move to any home for that kind of money. Even in a pretty decent area, the cheapest you could find is one for around US$50,000.
