Puppy Love - Good For You

"Puppy love -- it's better than you think
Pets trigger our 'feel good' hormones, research suggests

It's well known that pets, especially dogs, offer their owners many health benefits. Now scientists say dogs may help us even more than once thought."

https://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4625213/

I found this article very interesting. We all know that pets help us live longer, apparently dogs more so than other types. In addition, to the benefit of lower blood pressure, release of stress, which has been known for years, they now see evidence of hormonal changes that come from having dogs for pets. It seems to change certain hormone levels and helps with depression.

Here is another quote from that article specifically about that topic"

"Preliminary results from a study show that a few minutes of stroking our pet dog prompts a release of a number of "feel good" hormones in humans, including serotonin, prolactin and oxytocin.

In addition, petting our pooches results in decreased levels of the primary stress hormone cortisol, the adrenal chemical responsible for regulating appetite and cravings for carbohydrates."

You Good Love Puppy

I'd never heard that about decreasing food cravings! Isn't that interesting. So that's the next diet craze -- get a dog!! laugh.gif

Seriously, my family is considering getting a dog for the first time in many many years -- now that we have a house, a yard, and a big tall fence smile.gif But the landlord says no pitbulls, dobermans, rottweilers, or german shepards. And that's okay with me smiley.gif' /> I'd like a rather more medium sized dog, one that is a fun pet and not a vicious watchdog.

IMO
Roz
