I wouldn't think so. I don't see why anyone else would think so either. Growing up in high school in baptist country, lots of my classmates thought it admirable.

I came across this scripture in Doctrine and Covenants 89:
QUOTE 16. All grain is good for the food of man; as also the fruit of the vine; that which yieldeth fruit, whether in the ground or above the ground
17. Nevertheless, wheat for man, and corn for the ox, and oats for the horse, and rye for the fowls and for swine, and for all beasts of the field, and barley for all useful animals, and for mild drinks, as also other grain.

Where does the prohibition of drinking beer comes from then when the scripture is clear about mild drinks? I know that it was a policy/decision by Heber J. Grant around 1920 but why since he never claimed revelation on this issue and I think in order to change/override a canonized scripture, as a Prophet you MUST claim some sort of revelation?

Comments: I wouldn't say that beer is necessarily a mild drink. That is probably more like a barley malt drink like Ovaltine.

Comments: Beer is mild when compared to liquors which are strong drinks. The word of wisdom addresses wine separate from strong drinks, and wine is stronger than beer. Keep in that in mind if wine does not count as a strong drink why would beer. Verse 17 clearly talks about beer there is no other drink the saints in Nauvoo would know about that fits the description.
