The main focus here is where Members take the words of others from the Ensign, stories and other published material and present it as though it was written by them without crediting the original author.

international QUOTE (WilforW)

Anyone here ever find themselves grossly unimpressed by talks that are just read from the Ensign or not prepared at all? I usually just open up my scriptures and start reading. I know others that take a short nap, but I can't do that.

I find myself unimpressed with most talks that are given in Church, but I try to listen anyway. What else can you expect from a lay Church? Professional preachers are much more entertaining, but often what they teach is wrong. Those are the choices.

I enjoy most of the talks I guess it's a matter of where you're located. I'm not impressed by the fancy words but for simple talks that are sincere.

With the fact that people have jobs, family obligations, school, and other legitimate reasons for not preparing for their talk, I will forgive a member for not being totally original in his/her talk, if the person just reads verbatim, I do agree, they might as well play a recording of the talk, I would even rather hear a computerized voice text-to-speech recording then someone who reads monotone, and doesn't always know how to say the hard-to-pronounce words, and just botches up the talk.

I personally prefer when someone does not even look at any text to read it, even if they prepared it. When they share personal experiences its the best and because its your you don't have to worry about anyone contesting you plagiarized it.
