Great study and well thought out. I don't know it's accuracy but I can tell, our sense of smell is pretty acute. Not long ago I described being in a firefight to someone, I forgot the smell. The smell of battle is as intense as the sights and sounds. And given the opportunity, our sense of smell can improve if we get it away from the noxious odors that deaden it.

Smell You

As with any research that is being or has been done I know that the human sense of smell is very good. I still however would not say it is as good as a dogs or pigs. I think we humans have a very good sense of smell and can use it to find out stuff we wish to know.

The sad part of all of this is I can now only smell very strong odors. Most of my sense of smell is gone. SO with bad hearing, no sense of smell or taste and my eyes going bad I only have tough left. Come let me touch you. Does that sound bad? biggrin.gif.

How odors are turned into long-term memories. Neuroscientists have investigated which brain area is responsible for storing odors as long-term memories. Some odors can trigger memories of experiences from years back. A new study shows that the piriform cortex, a part of the olfactory brain, is involved in the process of saving those memories; the mechanism, however, only works in interaction with other brain areas.
