Thank goodness there were no fatal victims. Often times, this kind of accidents are so awful that several people end up being killed. Glad it wasn't the case in Moscow.

Eleven people were killed and dozens injured Monday in a blast on the St. Petersburg metro, the Russian health ministry said.

The explosion tore through a train traveling in a tunnel between subway stations.

A spokesman for the National Anti-terrorism Committee said the blast was caused by an explosive device in one of the train's cars.

"So far, we say it was an unidentified explosive device as investigators and the Federal Security Service's bomb specialists are to establish the exact cause of this explosion," Andrei Przhezdomsky told state-run Russia 24.

A second device was found and defused at another station, the committee said.

The St. Petersburg Prosecutor General's office called the explosion a terrorist attack, according to state-run media. No group has claimed responsibility.

The city’s entire metro system was shut down after the explosion.

Metro commuters described scenes of horror: “Everything filled with smoke; people started panicking.” Ref. CNN.

And this is why Russia should be a natural ally against terrorism. They have suffered through some devastating attacks too. Sure, there are plenty of areas where we'll disagree, but we should find areas of agreement and work together with them. That is how to ratchet down the tensions in the world because I will say one thing for sure, we don't want to have a thermo-nuclear war even by accident.

Terrorist go after their train system a lot and since the country is so huge its hard to police it all. Abninja is very correct about them taking fighting terrorists seriously instead of trying to bolster against us. Get your train system secure instead of trying to talk big.
