Wow, this guy deserves a heck of a lot more jail time in my book. This is ever bit as treasonous to me as what Manning did. I mean, he gave insider information to a foreign company to help them win contracts with the Navy… and he prospered from that relationship. Heck, this is more treasonous in my book. Manning did it out of some misguided sense of loyalty and idealism. This cat did it for dough. Lock him up and throw away the key.

There is a lot of criminal cases coming into the public domain of late. Its either someone is actively looking to embarrass the military or the media is just doing a better job of finding out who is not being nice than the military is doing keeping it a secret.

Texan,

The military doesn't try to keep this stuff secret. Nor does it send out a press release. It's out there for the press to find and always has been. I think they are just doing a better job of finding it.

The amazing thing is that ship stayed afloat. It had a huge hole torn in its side and managed to stay afloat. That is a testament to the US Navy's expertise, prowess, and professionalism.

As for the stand down, that is a great decision… and a brace one by the CNO.

Yeah they need to cease operations so they can review their staffing and their training. With all of modern technologies how can one miss a big commercial freighter bearing down on you?

From what I'm hearing now the story is that our destroyer lost its ability to steer and thus couldn't get out of the other ship's way. Someone's head is going to roll for this, one way or the other.

Navy: Two deadly destroyer crashes could have been prevented. The Navy has determined that two deadly crashes involving destroyers earlier this year could have been prevented, according to a report released Wednesday. "Both of these accidents were preventable and the respective investigations found multiple failures by watch standers that contributed to the incidents," said Chief of Naval Operations Adm. John Richardson. "We must do better." Ref. USAToday.
