Is there really hope for Trinidad and Tobago? These people are coming to this country to HELP those who are in need. It is so sad to see they experience things like this:
QUOTE A VISITING missionary was beaten, robbed and stripped down to his underwear on Sunday night.
Tony Pike, 47, a missionary originally from Heidelberg in Germany, has been in this country for the past year ’trying to fill the life of people with hope’.
However, Pike himself almost lost hope on Sunday after those he is ’trying to feed bit the hands’.
Pike relayed the story of his attack to this newspaper at Express House yesterday.
A member of the ’Is There Not A Cause’, Pike was on his way from a Sunday night church service to a Glencoe apartment where he was scheduled to spend the night. He attends the Divine Destiny Church in Diego Martin.
After exiting a maxi-taxi on the Western Main Road, Carenage, Pike entered a shop to buy a Smalta, he said.
Around 11.30 p.m. Two young men approached Pike from behind and one held him in a headlock.
Pike was beaten, he was pick-pocketed and his laptop computer and cellular phone were stolen.
He attempted to fight his attackers but the assailants ripped his pants off. The men dropped the laptop during the scuffle with Pike.
Two customers, who were in the shop at the time Pike was attacked, called the emergency E-999 hotline.
However, the police never came.
’I stood naked for more than two hours along the Main Road, if that happened in Germany they would have called and the loony bin would have come for me,’ Pike said.
’After giving a 30-minute speech on responsibility, two young men who said they knew the attackers were willing to tell police exactly who the men were, but they left when the police did not come,’ he said.
Pike said to make matters worse a police car passed him along the road while he stood in his underwear, waving his ripped pants.
The car never stopped... |
