Runner Breaks Leg, Crawls Across Finish Line
What a wonderful story. I am not sure if she really knew she broke her leg but she did not want to leave her team down. I am sure a lot of colleges will be looking at her as a good addition to their teams in the future.

| Talk about determination - even a broken leg couldn't keep this teen track star from crossing the finish line. It was Claire Markwardt's last cross country race of her high school career when she broke her leg mid-race, MyFoxCleveland.com reports. "I was fine until about 200 meters away and then it started to hurt and then it cracked a couple times," Markwardt said. She tried to get up, but her leg broke again. "I knew I really couldn't stay there and I didn't wanna let my team down and I had gone that far, so there wasn't really a point in laying there," the senior at Berkshire High School told the station. So, Markwardt crawled to the finish line. Later that night she was supposed to serve as the maid of honor at her sister's wedding but instead spent it in the hospital undergoing two surgeries. |

This IS an amazing story! What dedication to her team members and to herself to finish. I hope she recovers and is able to do what she loves again.

I must admit that she has amazing determination and a strong will. I know this might come out as mean but I am not convinced she made a proper decision here. If it were my boy I would have wanted him to stop.
This is hard for me to say but I think she made the wrong choice. People this is only a high school track and field competition. As far as her future running career she may have just ended it. Injuries like this are very serious and may plague her for the rest of her life.
Her leg crack twice! This is not a nice clean break and will not heal well ..... I just do not know how to convey the extreme concern I have for her future now. I do ask for every one to raise her in your prayers that that injury to be completely healed so her efforts may be rewarded in her future life.
High school sports are great fun and are even a path to getting into higher education that might other wise be unattainable. With a crippled leg is that future even a remote possibility?

Nice, but I wonder if it was really worth it? If her team would rather see her suffer and go under surgery just for the sake of honor then that is no team at all. I would understand if this were about war or rescuing someone, but not a race. Not very smart in my opinion.
