Civilian Weapon - Page 2

QUOTE

unfortunately guns were created only for ONE purpose, the rest of the examples you gave are people CHOOSING those tools and giving them ANOTHER use to the one that was intended.

True, so true. But guns (in my opinion) have two purposes.

Guns can be used to protect the innocent and second to intimidate the innocent. It is a tool that can be used for good or for evil.

The Tazer by extension can protect someone from being mugged, sexually assaulted, or killed. If someone has the right training they can stop someone from taking advantage of them.

Shouldn't an innocent person have that right to stop a not so innocent person from violent acts?

Rather off topic, but...

I do have a respect for the danger of Guns and have taught my children how properly handle a firearm for hunting purposes.
I have taught my children that a weapon should always be considered loaded and to only aim at what you intend to hit. I believe if my sons found a gun on the ground they would know what to do with it (leave it there get an adult). I believe even if a family does not have a gun in the house they should teach their children what to do if they find one or if a friend has one unsecured.

dbackers you are right on the money. Big issue is lack of gun education and respect for them. I grew up around them and we knew what to do as do my children.

I dislike the taser as it is being treated different from a gun. But is some ways is worse it completely immobilizes its target. Might work great for downing animals with out harm also. But it is smaller and easier to hide. One of the most deadly weapons I have seen used is the old sand sack appears enemy drops and it disappears and all real quit like. They were banned in Canada for a reason as the taser is.

I wish they would ban hand guns also.

Criminals will always have things to do what they want but we can control the average person access then I think we should. Shot in a robbery is bad enough but having two children playing with guns is so wrong. (I realize this occurs do to poor judgment on part of the parent who owns it) I just think we need to do what we can to protect idiots from themselves.

Why should we control access to protective weapons from the average person? They are the ones that need them to protect themselves from those criminals that you admit will alway have access to the weapons that they want.

What we need is to have very strict gun laws that punish criminals heavily if they use a gun in a crime (30+ years for armed robbery or a mugging or the death penalty if they kill someone with a gun in the act of a felony)

If a criminal knows that using a gun in a crime will add 20 - 30 years to his sentence maybe it will dissuade them from using on. In America atleast, someone muggers using a gun to steal get a few years and they are out.

I believe this should be the same with tazers. If a tazer is used to subdue a victim then their should be a heavy penalty for the assailant

Rather off topic, but...

I am not sure that I agree with this sentiment. It sounds to much like a socialist or nanny state to me, not allowing for individual freedoms.

Completely with dbackers on this one. If we can't trust ordinary Joe, who has gone through a background check, to carry a weapon that we allow our officers to carry, then we may as well hand the keys over to the criminals.

Of course, in Texas not only can ordinary Joe carry a tazer, but he can also carry a real gun.

Comments: Hey LDS_forever, if you are so against guns and weapons why not put a big sign up in front of your house: Gun and Weapon free; we don't fight back. I love you Canadians and your stances on weapons, they are truly funny. Look not to sound terse but guns are just a tool and they are good to have around. Like it or not some people just need to killing. Lots of love from the deep south of America, where we rely on ourselves to stay safe.
