Have you ever had a hernia? It can be a very painful experience and can sometimes be triggered by lifting something in an akward position or when the weight of the object is greater than your ability to lift it.]

HERNIA REPAIR
Janice Devroom had a problem, a split in the tissue of her abdomen about even with her hip bone. And Dr. Randall K. Jones had a solution: a piece of mesh so lightweight he could roll it up and place it laparascopically, with minimal incision, minimal recovery, minimal pain.

I've never had one, but my brother-in-law has had two! Very painful, and the surgeries he had to repair them were not fun, either.

Hernia Health & Special Psychology

I think I was born with one, but whether I had it from birth or acquired it later, I had it surgically corrected at age 2. I must say I'm glad I don't remember a thing. I have always been cautious in my lifting, so hopefully I won't have to do it again.
