Movies Bring Men To Repentance?

Can movies really change a man's conviction, make him feel guilt and remorse for evil acts or sins? Can movies be considered a tool of the 'Word'?

Christian Movie Prompted Man to Admit Killing Pregnant Girlfriend

Richmond, TX (LifeNews.com) -- A case involving abortion, a murder charge, and the movie "The Passion of the Christ" continues to attract national attention. Defendant Dan Leach was sentenced last week to 75 years in prison in Richmond, Texas, in connection with the strangulation death of his pregnant girlfriend, Ashley Nicole Wilson. Leach has said he was led to confess the crime after watching "The Passion," which depicts the crucifixion of Jesus Christ in all of its reality and brutality. The jury delivered the sentence after deliberating for about five hours. Wilson's death was originally ruled a suicide, but Leach later admitted he had choked Wilson with the cord from her graduation gown. Leach says he started thinking about killing Wilson the day after the 19-year-old told him she was pregnant. He has called himself a coward, conceding that he feared being abandoned by his family for getting Wilson pregnant. Leach has said he might have spared Wilson's life if she had agreed to obtain an abortion or if she had begged for mercy, but she did neither.

Repentance Men Bring Movies

It is amazing to me what the power of Christ' story can do to people. Unfortunately in today's society where reading is less appealing, the visualization of movies is probably the best way to reach out to the public. 'The Passion' was such a well-made movie, and was followed by so much controversy, that it was able to reach to a multitude of people; similar to evangelistic missions described in the New Testament. I remember when the movie first came out how many stories there were of murders and thieves turning themselves in after having seen it, because of how touched they were. Yes, movies can be a very powerful and very influential and can be considered a tool of the 'Word' if used properly.

Movies Bring Men To Repentance? Beliefs Religious General

Yes, and those who tend to criticize movies like the 'Passion of Christ' are the so called, 'converted' who cannot see that something might just benefit the one who does not think like 'them'. To a person who is wrapped up in violence a movie like the Passion will not make them as shocked as the person who lives a sedentary life just because some blood is shown, but the contemplation of it all will move them to change if there is still hope..
