AT THE CAMP
Chaos reigns in the small encampment. The men jump on each other wildly, fighting with whatever they have at hand. Somebody hurls stones, somebody else uses his kicks and his bare hands. One of the men headbutts his neighbor causing his nose to shatter in a crimson stain. Another is stabbed by the stick that was beeing used to cook, with two small mushrooms still hanging from it. The shouts of the wounded are covered by the screams of the offenders. People run in any direction, trying to hit a different opponent everytime. Is hard for the adventurers understand who is fighting with them and who is against them. Tomas grapples Albert trying to resist the assault of four different men. One of them starts holding the paladin's legs and, finding no other way to hurt him, violently bites him under the knee. Tomas relaxes his clutch for only an instant but is enough for Albert that stabs the paladin on his left arm (2 points of normal damage). Two of the other men attacking Tomas are sent to the ground by Mina's soap-sling, along with a third guy that might as well be a friend or a foe. The last attacker flanks the paladin but aims for Albert's head thus revealing himself as an ally. Albert can't avoid the punch but the blow doesn't seem enough to send him to the ground. The thug eats the dirt anyway, as soon as he is reached by Ja'laron's dagger. Krusten and Carnosus open the way around them. Not being very inclined to feel pity or mercy, Krusten kills a man that was furiously kicking on the head a fallen worker. Carnosus sends another man down, avoiding to injure him seriously.
With Albert out of the fight, both sides slowly cease the hostilities. The men look at each other in astonishment, suddenly realizing the consequences of what just happened. "They will come", says one of them breathing heavily. "We have to go from here". Almost all the standing workers start running in the woods, trying to get as far as possible before the arrival of the soldiers. Only one of them stays at the camp, together with your group.
"He is still alive", says the man talking about Albert. Apart from the drunken thug, you count other six men on the ground: four of them dead.
Out of Character: I didn't follow normal rules for combat. The idea was that of a confusing brawl, with the contenders so close to each other and so mixed between them that aiming or choosing a specific opponent would be almost impossible. A "hit whatever you hit situation" in which the party, being armed and trained for fight, would hardly get on the losing side. The rolls were just for having a rough guideline, that's why I asked for d20s and not combat rolls.
Tomas kneels beside the dead men, futilely binding their wounds with scraps torn from their clothing. Working over the fourth body, he begins trembling. Be it rage, concentration, futility or fear he himself cannot tell. Minutes pass as he finally gets up. "This should have been HIS fate," he says pointing at Albert.
In Character: Krusten, angry at how such crude men can become so violent so quickly, moves the man she killed and attends to the man being kicked in the head. Upon hearing Tomas she says, "I can kill him, I have no regrets and I'm no holy woman..." She looks at Albert hoping her words speak the utmost fear into him.
Tomas tends to the dead. Between them, he notices one of the men they first met by the ditch: his forehead is crimson with blood, probably hit by a stone. The other victims are the worker stabbed by Albert, the one killed by Krusten and the guy with the broken leg.
Krusten tries to help the man she saved: he is unconscious while the other wounded worker is awake but looks unable to stand on his feet. Also the only man that didn't flee looks injured and you guess that many of the fugitives may be in bad shape as well.
Albert is looking at you with a blank expression. His knife lies on the ground a few inches from his leg but he doesn't seem aware of it. Speechless, he keeps staring at the party.
Out of Character: I didn't update the situation at the ditch because I'm waiting to know what you want to do there. Lukego may have or not have time to post so maybe you guys could think of a way to make Ferrin cross to the other side or examine your surroundings while waiting for him.
Carnosus searches the pockets of the dead and finds 20 silver, a stone knife, a piece of rag, two leather strings and a flint&steel.
Out of Character: Krusten, I need a reflex save (you have to roll a d20 and add your Reflex modifier).
Ferrin waves happily across the ditch, "I's so glads I found you's! I was readings the papers and when I looked ups, you's alls had lefts!" Ferrin cautiously steps up to the edge of the ditch and looks down the steep sides. "How did you's gets all the ways over there's? It is certainly to fars to jumps."
