Alarmed by the sound of battle, Anntreen tries to get a good picture of the surroundings, ready to plan a rescue action or at least bring some help to her companions. The cleric, and her two companions, are not far from the treeline: not more than 10 feet away. Beyond the bushes, running to get armed, there is a dozen of thugs. They don't look very dangerous, taken one by one, but their number is overwhelming: 4 of them for each of the adventurers. She also notices that they wear no armor, just normal, ragged, clothes and their weapons are crude bows made of bone (most probably as ineffective as ugly) and a few rusty and dented daggers.
The bridge is still in place, more or less 200 feet from Anntreen's current position. At the moment, running for it would mean pass in the middle of the confused commoners. A dangerous choice.
Out of Character: W= Workers (2 tied and held captive, the close ones, and 2 injured)
A= Archers
D= Daggers
G= The two guards climbing down from the trees
ICon: Sorry, I forgot. Captain Tomlin wears a well kept Leather Armor
Carmana: When you submit combat rolls, please specify if you already added the modifiers or not. This one is clear, but the last one was a 20 and I don't know if it was a natural roll or a 15 +5.
Dungeons & Dragons 3.5 A Crone, A Marquis & Missing Medallion RPG (Hover)
Anntreen begains to move toward Jeaals location. She thinks they can make a run for it for that Bridge and get past the lot of them and over it, perhaps even move the bridge behind them leaving the most of the people on one side of the dank but trapping them self's with the way out on the other with there comrades.
She waves to Ferrin as she starts to crawl toward Jeaal hoping the little trickster will follow her.
Out of Character: Brucerono, please don't lose sleep over us.
Kit, you'll find that the run action allows for 4 times movement at the cost of a full turn and losing your dexterity bonus to AC.
In Character: Tomas moves around Tomlin to gain a flank, and again strikes with the pommel of his sword.
Attack: 9 +1 +2 -4 = 8
"Woah, watch where you're swinging that, Carnosus. We need answers from the Captain."
Ferrin bursts from the trees, making a run straight for the bridge, screaming, "BOARS! Run for your lives!" If he can reach it, he will knock the bridge out of place, trying to make it look like he simply tripped over it in his frantic state. He hopes to scatter the commoners and keep them from reinforcing the enemy. He silently prays that the party's more martial members can handle whatever is on the other side of that ditch.
"Blast!" Jeaal mutters as Ferrin leaps from the underbrush. He bolts after the halfling, running for the other side of the bridge. He sheathes his bow and draws one of his swords as he runs.
Leaping to her feet and with her staff in hand Anntreen charges out running as fast as she can for the bridge.
Full run action. 4 times moment no Dexterity to AC no attack for the round. Is open to attacks of opportunity if I move threw a 5 foot reach of anyone. Would attempt to run zig zag around the people avoiding that if possible.
IN THE CAMP
Anntreen, Jeaal and Ferrin decide to try a surprise action, running for the bridge. The commoners are all armed now and, before you can get out of the woods, some of them run to the bridge in advance and cross to the other side. They notice your presence only when Ferrin starts yelling: "Boars. Run for your lives!". They start stopping, and turning back to see what is happening. The alarm causes a big confusion between the thugs that are still on your same side of the trench. Not knowing what to do and surprised by your sudden appearance, they start looking around frantically: nobody tries to stop you. Anntreen and Jeaal make it almost to the bridge while Ferrin is still some space back. You judge that, running again, all of you can get past the bridge since, on this side, the way is clean.
Looking around, you notice that none of the archers have crossed the trench: they were taking position by its edge probably to keep at fire range anybody that could escape from the tent. With them, there are other three thugs armed with daggers while the rest made it to the other side already.
Jeaal notices that one of the guards that was descending from the tree (the one on the left) is now down and running to the tent, sword in hand. He can't see the other because is covered by the ugly improvised tent but, most probably, he is already on the ground as well.
IN THE TENT
Ja'laron keeps attacking the guard that was on the floor (Guard1). The rogue seems inspired today and lands another successful blow, taking the life of the unfortunate man with a single swift movement of his arm.
Mina tries to get to her opponent (Guard3) but the soldier is faster and hits her near the left wrist (4 Points of Damage). The Druid doesn't allow the blow to perturb her and, keeping calm and steady, she strikes in retribution hitting the man on the head. The blow is well aimed and kills the guard on the spot.
Krusten and the last guard (Guard4) engage each other in combat but none of them is able to find an opening in the opponent's defense.
On the back side of the tent, Captain Tomlin keeps trying to clear his way to Ja'laron, made blind by the thirst for revenge. Carnosus takes advantage of the veteran's recklessness and strikes another powerful hit on his chest. The blow shakes the Captain, now covered in blood, but doesn't sedate his fury. With a beastly roar, Captain Tomlin lowers his longsword and strikes the Ranger between his neck and shoulder sending him to the ground (7 Points of Damage. Carnosus is down and is dying).
Tomas feels helpless as yet another of his attacks is neutralized by the Captain's large wooden shield.
Out of Character: Carnosus Darnok cannot act. He will lose 1 Hit Point per round, if not assisted, and die when he reaches -10 (I never used this rule when Dungeon Mastering, characters were dead at -1. But for 3.5 is not optional so I will adopt it).
I don't feel you need a map. If somebody is totally confused, I will try to post one but is difficult to fit inside and outside in a single image file. Just imagine the new positions taking the old maps as an example. There haven't been major changes to the layout.
