The group pushes ahead, challenging the cold wind that is sweeping the plains. The rain is getting more intense and the Cat is losing her fight with the clouds for the domination of the night-sky. The sound of singing frogs is all that can be heard. The small groove is now not more than an indefined black stain in the dark night. Distances can be deceiptive in a flat landscape, where no other natural feature can be used as a reference. As time passes, you have the impression that you are not getting any closer to your destination. Your stomachs are now protesting heavily for the lack of food (not Ferrin. Like Mina and Berin he is still in his 1st day: no need for food). You are weak, wet and would really benefit from having a light source. Out of Character: Welcome back, FoxRogue! We really missed you here. Man, try to drop a line in the Player's Hub next time. You can use your phone for that if you can't connect from a pc.
"There's no chance of finding anything in this!" Tomas yells to both Ferrin and Jon(who is ahead of him about 40 ft), over the rain. "We know what path they took, Loya's guard can take over from us. Let's just go back."
She finishes her recounting of the last day and a half worth of events, taking a little over a half hour to do so in grate detail uninterrupted.
She then goes on to add, "My pilgrimage from the confederation up to that point was rather uneventful."
She smiles calmly glancing over at Mina, "And, what about you? From where do you hail and what has brought you this far out?"
Not receiving a direct response from either of the others, Ferrin sticks to Tomas while Jon goes ahead. Uncharacteristically calm and quiet, he says, "I thinks you be rights, Mister Tomas. And these clothes are not mades for this weathers."
Krusten, in her care free eccentric way, nods at everything asked of her saying "Yes" and "Uh-huh" but mostly to get to be as she is oblivious to all and yawns, stretches her arms in a most unladylike manner and says, "Okay time for bed... What was the arrangement again? Sleep outside or share a room?"
Faruq sat on a fallen log after finishing a supper of smoked hare. The day before, he had tried smoking the meat though he was used to curing meat with sunlight. The abundance of kindling on the plains had given him this opportunity. The smoky flavor was quite welcome.
He was still amazed by the volume of moisture that spattered all around him. As futile a task as it would be, he often found himself resisting the urge to run around trying to capture all the rain. The novelty, however, was wearing off as the showers became increasingly ambitious. The cold weather outfit he had worn in his old life to comfortably pass the cold, desert nights helped to keep the experience from being completely dismal. He especially hated the dampness at the seat of his pants, and with the wind gusts...
As he was pinching his cloak's hood tight about his neck, Faruq spotted a hazy figure in the rain. He involuntarily loosened his scimitar in his scabbard at the hilt for a quick draw. While not accustomed to seeing in the rain, he was no stranger to hunting or spotting potential ambushes in sandstorms. But then a second figure appeared escorting what looked to be a child. Who would bring a child out in this weather? The figures came closer.
These are no brigands, he thought. Indeed, they didn't seem dressed for the conditions and were stumbling as if weak. Plus, as he had no campfire, Faruq didn't think the figures were yet aware of his position. He'd heard that highwaymen were roaming about unchecked, but had yet to encounter any. Maybe this family had escaped with little less than their lives.
Still, he drew his blade, laying across his knee just to be safe. Hiding was rarely an instinctive action for Faruq. Besides, hiding spots were scarce on the plains. There he sat, awaiting the arrival of the trio.
"Krusten, its 5 silver for a small room twice that for a large one. But, only 1 silver for a spot on the floor by the fire. I don't know about you but I would like to sleep inside tonight its been a week or more since I last got the option to be under a roof. But, as for the room I only have 5 silver left to my name. If you wish to share the cost of a room I would like to have a door to lock and possibly a bath if this place offers such, but its up to you whether you wish to split the cost of such a luxury or not."
Krusten pulls out 4 silver pieces and lays it on the table.
"I'm but one short because of my meal, its the least I can do for someone that heals as perfectly good as you do."
Krusten calls over the old maid to take the coins and show her the room. Krusten yawns again bidding everyone a good night but in a sarcastic half conscious way before she goes off to sleep.
