Krusten comforts her saying she did well and to go do what she normally does forgetting their meeting. Krusten decides to 'hang around' the butler observing his movements. Should her action make him uneasy she will say something like "I've always wanted to see how a butler operates..." then at the right time she will confront him with what she heard him say again using intimidation only if necessary. Her aim is to get to the bottom of everything.
As the villagers leave for the funeral preparations, Mina asks, "Do you think everyone will attend? Should we, and if so, all of us or just a few? I'm still of the mind it might be advantageous if we go in after the bandits now. Anyone else have an idea?"
"We must still meet up with the rest of our group" replies Tomas. "They will undoubtedly go to the funeral and we can regroup there. Then we shall decide whether or not we leave today."
Anntreen agrees, "We just meet up with the others before tackling such a task."
Her feelings on the mater would illustrate the bandies as monsters, beasts that have brought such suffering to this place leaving such a wake of sorry.
SGTLEE.
Ja'laron spots the carts bringing the dead peasants, followed by a growing crowd of workers and servants. Looks like everybody in the ranch will be attending the funerals.
Before making up his mind, the rogue revises the informations obtained during an afternoon long conversation with the stablemaster and the hostlers (I will report also the old informations, completing them, so you will have all the info in a single post for quick reference in case you need them).
As he imagined, all the shipments are set up at the stables. Zachary, the supervisor, is the man in charge of organizing them. Twice a week, on different days, two small caravans bring the carded wool to Loya and Nedo. Once a month, a bigger shipment is sent to the capital city, Sor.
The organization is standard: three wooden carts, pulled by mules, and eight men traveling on foot. No escort. Usually the men are armed with crude wooden clubs, more than enough to keep the unorganized bands of brigands at bay.
The route is not a big issue: there are only three big, stone paved, roads in all the Empire and reaching the destination is an easy task. Anyway, every shipment has a man in charge. There are three designated leaders: Zachary, the supervisor, a man called Douglas Albertine, actually at the ranch, and one of the victims of the last assault (no need for the name, since is dead, to avoid too many things to remember). There are also two "Second men", Slim and Rowanor.
The first shipment assaulted by the brigands was leaden by Zachary, Slim was the second man. Usually, nobody joins two shipments in a row. For this reason, the second shipment assaulted by the bandits had one of the victims as its leader and Rowanor as his second. But Rowanor fell I'll, a strange disease (he is been cured outside the ranch, by the local healer), and was replaced at the last minute by Slim. Rusty and Bullneck were in the second shipment but not in the first.
The special shipments Ja'lanor heard about are those called "Two ways shipments" and they only make route to Loya, the nearest city. Once a month, two different kind of carts (more narrow but more deep) are added to the three standard carts and used to bring back from the city provisions, tools and any other kind of good needed at the ranch and that can't be found in Lowmeadow.
The Stablemaster puts an end to your conversation saying: "Is about time we join the ritual also, nice to have made your acquaintance. Hope you find the time to stop by from time to time".
KRUSTEN.
Krusten heads back to the mansion, looking for the butler, but finds the door closed and guarded by one of the soldiers that she saw the day before drinking at the inn. "Sorry, Madame", says the man, "I have order to deny access to anybody. They are all at the the funerals and we have been asked to keep an eye on the estate".
Looking around, the fighter spots another guard by the main access to the ranch. She recognizes the crippled militiaman that she met in the night, arriving at the inn.
EVERYBODY ELSE.
The party starts heading towards the area in which the funeral rite has to be held. On the way you meet Jonathan that informs you about the result of his investigation on the supervisor. Following the man has led to nothing. Zachary has organized the recovery expedition, changed his clothes and helped with the preparations in front of the small cemetery.
Krusten will observe the militia man if she can without being that obvious. If she cannot get to the butler then she will go to the funeral still observing the faces and actions of those in attendance.
Not knowing his way around Ja'laron will follow Rusty from a distance. If he(Rusty) goes to the funneral he will follow and observe from a distance the actions watch for Slim and Bullneck. Paying attention to their actions and expressions.
