Dungeons & Dragons 3.5 A Crone, A Marquis & Missing Medallion RPG - Page 10

Three children story: After devouring with amazing enthusiasm the food you provided, one of the children tells you about their wereabouts. They are the sons of two commoners, employed as servants in the house of a nobleman in Nedo, the second bigger city of Soria, a 300 miles to the east. They are Doug and Chuck, two twins, and their little cousin Ivy. Looking at the girl dressed in a broken old sack, you can hardly tell that under all that dirt is hidden a young female. Their mothers died 4 years ago, victims of the plague, and they followed their fathers in the marquis' mansions. More than two months ago, their parents left with the young marquis on an errand to Loya but no news were ever heard from them. With nothing left on this world, they decided to flee from the mansion and look for their fathers. Soon they fell prey of cold and hunger and realized how foolish they have been. Now, any hope being lost, they only try to survive.

Krusten sympathizes with the children and reassures them that they are safe now.

"We must get you back to your abode, do you know how to get to it, I can help you."

Anntreen pulls her sack from being tied to the side of her back pack, and draws it open in front of her. She begins digging around in it till she finds what she was looking for, her spare clothing.

Wherein her Exploring outfit at the moment, she pulls parts of a Traveler's outfit from the bag.

This set of clothes consists of boots, a wool skirt, a sturdy belt, a shirt, jacket, and an ample cloak with a hood.

She pulls out the skirt and plays a bit with the draw string to see how small she can make it. She also pulls out the long sleeved shirt, "Likely would fit like a dress." She mumbles under her breath. She pulls out the belt and looks at it knowing a new hole will need to be made in it to make it small enough for a kid. The jacket she knows will be to big but not by much for one of the boys.

She hands the jacket and the cloak to the boys saying "Here one of you might be able to fit this, and this can be used as a blanket for you 3 to sleep under it should be big enough I hope." She then goes back to the skirt in her lap drawing the dagger from her boot she makes a small cut in the skirt to a length more befitting a child's and tares the extra fabric along the rim of the woven wool till the length has been cleanly reduced to floor length on the small girl. Then slips the dagger back down in her boots concealed sheath. She offers her the skirt and the shirt. Saying, "If you pull tight the draw string and tie it tight it will fit, and if you tuck in the top the added layer will keep you warmer at night."

The belt she looks at and then puts back in her bag knowing she cant make a hole for it to fit the kids with anything she has on hand. She also tucks the spare pare of boots/socks from the outfit back into her bag.

From her mannerisms and basic knowledge of children it might be assumed she has much younger siblings at home or is a custom to dealing with kids. Even with Her youthful appearance she seems to have many motherly like quality.

She adds a comment of comfort "In the morning we can get you washed up if you want; and, if any of you are hurt just let me know so I can heal you."

Disagreeing with Krusten, Tomas says "No, Loya is the only way to go. They will have information on somebody as important as a marquis and whether or not he arrived. The city should also have much more room to take in these kids. Do you agree?" he throws the question out to everyone gathered.

Turning to the children he asks "Could you kids tell us names of your parents and your lord? And do you know what the errand was about?"

As he questions them, Tomas observes their health closely, assisting Anntreen.

All this religious talk gives Krusten a slight migraine. She could never be part of any kind of religious order conforming to rules. Now hearing Tomas butting into her conversation with the children makes her highly annoyed she almost envisions pulling her sword and pointing it at the mouth of the religious man but of course she restrains herself and withdraws back to where she stooped before looking on without saying anything only wanting to see how the group responds.

Jonathan says to Tomas, "Yes more information would gotten in Loya, but how would we be certain that we would get that information or that it would be correct. I also worry about the children's welfare. One of us would have to stay with them if we were to take them with us, not to mention a possibility, though slight, that if a group did abduct a marquis, they might try to keep it quiet."

The two twins look eager to answer your questions while their cousin, Ivy, fell asleep right after finishing her meal. They explain that the marquis, Sir Ron Buckley, was quite run down lately. He inherited the title and a small fortune at his father death but proved himself to be totally unable to manage the family assets. It was not long before he was forced to seek help from the local bankers: he made new debts to cover the old ones, to the point that his name appeared in the blacklist of every bank or money lender in Nedo. The travel to Loya was a way to find new funds, before every dealer in Soria decided to close his purse whenever he heard the name of Sir Buckley. Their fathers, Harold and Geoffrey Farmstead, joined the expedition but no message had been received since one week after their departure, more than two months before.

Jonathan frowned when he heard that a marquis was in debt to bankers. He never liked those of that profession, even though he knew that not all bankers were bad. He saw them as bottom feeders, making money from other people charging them for borrowing money. He found the practice distasteful.
