Travel To U K

In the next week I will be traveling to the UK on business. I have never been there, and am looking for any travel tips, etc that anyone has to offer. I will be flying into London, Heathrow Airport and will need to drive to Wincester. My business will be located in Hursley Park. Any and all information, tips, etc are welcome, as I am already intimidated about driving on the other side of the road and having to deal with roundabouts shocked.gif' /><!--endemo--> Thanks! </p><div> </div> </div>

First of all, congrats - you will have fun! Here is what I can tell you:

The UK has the best map and road systems in the world so you will not get lost if you can read road maps well.

The food can be a bit bland as they are not into seasonings and spices, but be sure to eat some good old fish and chips. Ask anyone where a good 'chippy' is and ask them to put gravy on it for you wink.gif Yes, gravy. They have curry, but it is nothing like Trini curry.

If you have time, make sure to go and see the historical sites as ENgland has a wealth of history it is ready to share. Most of it is quite interesting and you might just find yourself buying lots of souvenirs.

It rains a lot so make sure you have an umbrella.

Can't think of anything else, but maybe Dubhdara might know something.

Do not adulterate your chips with gravy or curry. You will need good old tomato sauce on them!

Yes, an umbrella is good - especially at the moment!

The Internet will give you good mapping/journey planning services. Try our:

Yes, buy lots of souvenirs because they might be worth a lot
of money one day when only the EU flag and emblems are
available and our own heritage, identity and freedom all but
destroyed ;(

I like "bland" food. Curry and other spices are, as every good scriptorian knows, telestial foods wink.gif

best of luck in England!

Dubhdara.

I plan on visiting London sometime in Jan. Malexander. Most of my friends said it was very expensive there. That was the only negative thing they had to say about the U.K. And yes it rains alot.

I can well imagine your concern about the cost of living over there. The Pound is almost 2-1 over the US dollar. My company will only give a 28pounds per day allowance for meals, which amounts to about 15 US dollars. Not very much, in my opinion.
My main concern though is driving over there, not because of being on the other side of the road, but because I was told that it is easy to get lost. I fly in at 10:30PM and will need to drive from London to Wincester. Am I nuts for attempting to drive over there for the first time in the dark?

I was told that it is easy to get lost.

Whomever told you that is not good with maps or cannot read signs, because everything is marked. As for driving on the left side, just take your time and remain alert. Unlike the US drivers in the UK are more courteous and cautious. Take a breath and observe how the cars handle the road (how they turn, etc) before you actually take off. Having driven on both sides I can safely say that it only becomes a big deal if you make it that way.

As for £28 that is enough, you won't be able to eat in a lavish hotel, but you can get a good meal with it and lots of junk food. Chippys, as was already discussed, are very cheap.
