Traditional Or New Age?

Should religious organizations change policies and / or practices to cater for modern times?

TRADITIONAL RELIGIONS DON'T FIT ALL

When surveys are conducted about religious beliefs, people like Kory Burkley are lumped into the category "none of the above."

Age Or Traditional

Well, I don't think you should change doctrine to meet the demands of current society, but that doesn't mean you can't change the way it is presented. The gospel doesn't change just because society does. So, you can't (or shouldn't) change the commandments and how they tell us to live our lives. However, I don't see anything wrong with presenting it in a manner that appeals to people of this age.

Now, my church doesn't really do this on the one hand, but on another they do. They have special congregations for single people, for example. The messages taught there are not different fundamentally from what is taught in the traditional "family" congregations, but the focus is more from how it applies to single people rather than families. The gospel being taught isn't different, but the approach to how the message is focused is.

Now, in my faith you don't have meetings with rock music, etc., but personally I see nothing wrong wth it. I know there are churches out their that really gear their worship services to getting the attention of a younger crowd and sometimes they use modern music, etc., as a tool. As long as they don't change the gospel message to suit the desires and lifestyles of those in attendance, I see nothing wrong with this.

Traditional Or New Age? Beliefs Religious General

Personally, the idea of rock music in church is not appealing. Electric guitars and heavy bass, screaming vocals... It just doesn't invite the Spirit of the Lord, who speaks to us in a still, small voice. It doesn't promote reverence or respect for Almighty God, in my opinion, just as wearing old, ripped blue jeans does not show respect for the Lord's house.

However, if it is somehow bringing our modern youth to Christ, maybe that's a good thing... I'm just glad it's not happening in my church smile.gif
