LOW-FAT DIET MAINTAINS WEIGHT BEST, STUDY FINDS
Regardless of how they shed pounds in the first place, big losers stayed that way by limiting fat rather than carbohydrates, according to new research that could add fuel to the backlash against low-carb diets.

I can certainly see how this would work. Drastically lowering carbohydrates appears to be a very good way to lower weight, but I have always wondered about its effectiveness for keeping weight off.
I have to avoid the high protein diets, as I am suffering some kidney problems right now. So, I have changed my diet quite a bit, including a lot more fruits and vegetables, complex carbohydrates, and almost exclusively using olive oil. I use Brummel & Brown on toast and vegetables, as it is much lower in various fats than margerine or butter. I generally tend to eat more lean meats than I used to.
I will have to look into lowering my fat intake even more. This is good information.
Interesting discovery. To be quiet honest with you all, I eat almost anything I know...I need to take care of myself but I just eat what it taste nice
Sometime ago I was very concerned about the kind of foods I eat and stuff but because of my lifestyle I don't have much time to see about that. I do eat vegetables, I love them and fruits ocassionally (to find good and affordable fruits in Trinidad is not an easy task...and yeah! we live on an island...paradojic huh?)
The reason any diet works at all is because you eat less calories. The reason the low carb diets work is because the foods you eat are generally more filling for the number of calories that they contain so you are satisfied (full) on fewer calories. I imagine the reason it isn't easy to keep the pounds off with such a diet is because it is so radically different from a normal diet. Most of us really can't live long term with such restrictions.
I like the old fashion calorie counting method myself. This allows me to pick and choose how to spend my daily allotment of calories. To me, this should be the easiest method for maintenance even if it isn't the easist method for losing.
