Couples Are Postponing Childbirth and Suffering the Consequences

In October, a son was born to an Indian man named Ramjeet Raghav and his wife, Shakuntala. This story made news around the world because Raghav claims to be 96, which would make him the oldest man living to have fathered a child. Lost in the questions about Raghav's age is the fact that his wife was 53 when their second child was born. Ref. Source 5

I'm glad to hear that the baby was born well, but I've got to say that I think if the Father really is 96, then this is really irresponsible to be bringing a child into the world when there is no chance at all of being alive to see him reach adult hood, and that's without any health problems that could have been passed down through fathering a child so late in life sad.gif

I agree about [them] being too old, but maybe they didn't plan it that way. Its not like a couple that age are likely to have children. Just interested in this though... Is the age of the father a reason for possible health problems later for the child? Are you basing that on the quality of the sperm from a man that age?

I was just basing it on new research that I have read that says that the quality of sperm deteriorated and brings with it health problems passed on to children.. The research specifically says if the man is over the age of 50, which this father definitely qualifies for smile.gif
On the other hand, there are also possible side effects from the Mother having children so late in life, but these seem to be more to do with strain on the mother in child birth and pregnancy and not as much in passing down any defects to the children.
I just hope that at least one of the parents gets to fully raise the children to adult hood!

Makes sense. This will make older couples think about protection because you can never tell even if you believe you're too old to have children.
