McLellands Murder Case

Several dozen FBI agents are now assisting the investigation into the killings of Kaufman County, Texas, District Attorney Mike McLelland and his wife, Cynthia, a bureau spokeswoman said today.

The McLellands were found dead in their home Saturday. It was the second slaying of a Kaufman County prosecutor since January 31, when Assistant District Attorney Mark Hasse was gunned down outside his office. Investigators have not said whether they have established a link between the deaths of Hasse and the McLellands, but local officials say they suspect the killings are connected.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry offered his condolences to the McLelland family. He promised to name a replacement for Mike McLelland's post "As soon as possible." Ref. CNN

The wife of a former justice of the peace in Texas is being held on a capital murder charge in connection with the killings of Kaufman County District Attorney Michael McLelland, his wife Cynthia and an assistant district attorney, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Kim Williams, the wife of Eric Williams, is being held in the Kaufman County jail, the Morning News said.

Eric Williams, a former justice of the peace, was arrested last week on a count of making a terroristic threat. A sheriff's affidavit accused him of using his home computer to threaten police investigating the killings.

The McLellands were shot to death in their home in late March. McLelland's assistant district attorney, Mark Hasse, was shot to death in January. Ref. CNN

Former Justice of the Peace Eric Williams has been formally charged with capital murder in the killings of a Texas district attorney, his wife, and another prosecutor, officials told reporters Thursday.

The announcement comes a day after Williams" wife, Kim Lene Williams, was arrested and charged in the same killings.

Kaufman County District Attorney Michael McLelland and his wife, Cynthia, were killed in March. Prosecutor Mark Hasse was killed in January.

Last year, McLelland and Hasse prosecuted Eric Williams on charges of felony burglary and theft by a public servant, according to a warrant issued for the arrest of Kim Lene Williams.

Eric Williams was removed as a justice of the peace, an elected office, after he was convicted in March 2012, the warrant said. Ref. CNN
