N B A In China

The National Basketball Association meets China this week with a series of pre-season matches between the Sacramento Kings and Houston Rockets, whipping up a basketball fever that has driven ticket prices to astronomical heights, and provoking debate on the impact of this latest American invasion on the local sports industry. The NBA frenzy in Shanghai and Beijing, where the games are set for Thursday and Sunday, features no less than Yao Ming, a Shanghai prodigy and China's most popular sports icon, playing at home for the first time with his NBA team.

China In B N

This is not that different from what has happened in baseball, where every year preseason games are held in Japan. Currently there are 3 Japanese superstars in the MLB: Ichiro, Matsui and Kaz. The same is happening in the NBA but on a more global scale with Yao Ming at the center of it all. I think it is good to promote the NBA globally, and to reach out to world countries, because it is evident from the last World Championships and Olympics that there is a lot of talent outside the US.

This reminds me of Kung Fu Panda. The American people are making friends with the Chinese, just like the Chinese are making friends with the Americans. Being an American Chinese and a Chinese American myself, I love to see peace with both countries.
