IMO...no one with any political aspirations should take that job! With the "love affair" (JOKING) that the current administration has with the electorate, if I were a republican thinking of running for president, I would totally separate myself from this administration. I expect McCain and Giulliani to start becoming extremely critical of the current administration within the next few months as we gear up for the party primaries. Now, I will expect the current administration to try and get one off your list to take the job. This would be more to try and boost the GWB's appeal before he leaves (I really do think that he will start trying to boost those approval rating at almost any cost before he steps down).

Basically, I expect almost all running republicans to nearly denounce GWB before the next election. I can almost hear him saying "E tu Brute" now.

My gut feeling is it will be a old respected politician (if Cheney gets sick). Probably someone like Danforth or maybe even Jim Baker. Someone's whose career is reallly over and this will just be the cherry on top of it.

Well, I would say that is a good resolution to make, a bit late, but good nevertheless:

I am very skeptical about any politician using tax breaks to solve problems. Tax incentives never solve problems, they are merely a band-aid solution. They are ALWAYS used for political convenience. What I advocate is investing those tax dollars into improving the health system. Make it more efficient, accessible and subsidise vital treatments to those who cannot afford it, that sort of thing. This health care for the rich really doesn't sit well with me.

I don't know much about the US health system, but it would appear from this report that unless you are rich, or fortunate enough to belong to an employer scheme, you don't get coverage. Is this true?

I am not a fan of socialism, but I think social democracy has a lot of merit when it comes to vital public services such as health. No better example of this is Sweden, whose citizens enjoy state of the art health and very little cost. I might also add they are very affluent people despite the tax burden.

Capitalism and privatisation of the system is not the best way when it comes to our health, Government's have to take a responsibility for the wider community. Private Public Partnerships PPPs are another way that the private sector can become involved but control remains in the public sector.

The Bush Administration has been taking punches left and right from Congress, the Supreme Court (Global Warming), other countries which generally see him as a warmonger and most of the citizenry of the USA. One has to wonder how his last two years will pan out? Will he continue to talk big or go out quietly?

In my opinion, he will fight to the end, and do everything he can (as a lame duck president), as long as he can, to keep control over what he has. As an example, he's still threatening to veto the Congressional bill re: Iraq funding.
