Have any of you seen the latest Tom Hanks movie, Terminal? My wife and I saw it last weekend. Pretty good flick. Tom Hanks arrives at JFK airport on a flight from a fictitious eastern European country. A civil war broke out just after his flight left and his country suspended all visas so he is not allowed through customs. At the same time, he is not allowed to return to his country because it doesn't exixt anymore. So, he is stuck at the airport, not allowed to leave and he remains there for a year or so. I won't say anymore as I don't want to spoil the movie but I did want to point out the subject was loosly based on a real life event. A man has been stranded at Charles de Gaule airport in France since 1988 under similar circumstances. Read about it at the link below:

Just saw it on the usual US$0.45 video and it was pretty good. I especially like how it showed the difficulty honest people have to go through just to enter the USA. Some of the laws are so ridiculous that they truly make you feel like an alien, no, not just any alien, I am talking about alien from another planet! One element of the story I thought was a bit off was how silly they made Tom look, and why did his buddies not alert the media to stir up a renzy?
Excellent movie. Tom Hanks is amazing on the role. Thanks for the link Gaucho, I read the whole story and I was shocked to hear that this guy from Iran still living at the aiport! He seems to be mentally challenged and I suppose that after living for 10 years there, its obvious he must have some kind of mental problem now. Very sad story.
We watched this movie last night. It ended up a bit differently than I expected, which is always a good thing. I really felt for the main character, and was ready to cheer with all of the people in the airport as he made his real move. I really enjoyed this one.
A very good movie. I thought they made him exceptionally smart though, with the ability to learn the language, create such artistic work with his hands, and to show his character as being a caring person.
Obviously the story was a little far fetched. In the real world he could have received a parole status into the U.S. as a visitor. The United States has a lot programs for immigrants, including 60,000 citizenships for people from countries that are impoverished.
I just saw it tonight, and I thought it was pretty good. I mean, it's not one of those movies I'm going to run out and buy, but it was rather moving. I think it showed a unique perspective on friendship, and just how far some people go out of their way to help people they don't know. I know the man was fictitious, but I think if we all had a bit more of heart like he did, the world would be better.
Tom Hanks did an amazing job, as always. He is a truly talented actor, and it's so amazing what he can do with all types of characters.
