As I have gotten older, I find that I cry far more often at movies than I did as a child. I cry usually at sad endings, but also sometimes at really happy ones as well. I am most likely to cry if I can identify in some way to the characters in the movie to whom the sad or happy event is occuring.
Although I'm a guy, and guys aren't supposed to cry during movies, I have teared up a couple of times before. One movie that I can remember getting teary eyed over was "Steel Magnolias" when Julia Robert's character dies, and her son runs up to Sally Fields. I think now, more than ever, this hits close to home, because I can imagine that happening to my family, and it makes me sad.
Bambi. Every stinking time! His mother gets shot and he's calling and calling for her in the forest, and I cry every single time.
Steel Magnolias.
It's a Wonderful Life.
Lethal Weapon - when Mel Gibson's character is trying to kill himself but can't, and crying and kissing his late wife's picture and says, "I miss you..." That just rips my heart out. (Hey, that's a Christmas movie.... I think I'll watch it soon!)
And any other sad movie that I can identify with the characters' situation.
The sad ones get me the worst:
Dead Poet's Society
Schindler's List (tv version)
The one with Tom Hanks stranded on an island after a plane crash-when he loses Wilson
The one with Julia Roberts who has a husband who abuses her, she fakes her death, starts a new life, and he comes back to kill her
Sorry, the names are escaping me at the moment.
The happier ones:
Also Steel Magnolia's
Father of the Bride
Mr. Holland's Opus
Malexander, did you cry when you saw The Passion of Christ?
