Spotlight RPG FAQ Frequently Asked Questions
No matter how many rules and explanations you post there will always be questions. This thread features the most popular questions asked.
Q. What is the difference between this RPG and Love & Life Bytes?
A. Not much except that your characters are already generated.
Q. What do I have to do to play in this RPG?
A. You must have 30 or more Posts.
Q. Why can't I create my own character?
A. You can in Love & Life Bytes RPG.
Q. Can I change characters once selected?
A. No, your character is stuck with you so long as you are a member of this community. So choose wisely.
Q. Why can't I just kill my character and choose another one?
A. Spotlight characters do not commit suicide or seek to kill anyone, but besides that, characters are preset, so if you keep changing there will not be enough preset characters to go around!
Q. Why can't I select my own picture?
A. Part of the amusement of Spotlight is the fact that you have to play a character you may not personally have anything in common with or even like. This enables you to exercise your acting skills even more!
Q. Can I be rude in my words?
A. No. You are allowed to say anything you like so long as it is not racial or sexual in nature. Of course you can try to be obnoxious if your character description says that your character is pompous, but other than that just keep your cool.
Q. Why would I want to play Spotlight when I can play Love & Life Bytes and earn Luck?
A. Well not everything is about 'earning' something. Spotlight is actually more of a challenge than Love & Life Bytes, because you have to play a character given to you rather than one you would like to play.
UPDATE: You can now earn Luck points:
Q. Yes, but it sure would be nice to earn at least something, right?
A. Oh well, there is a higher FP pay put for Spotlight. In Love & Life Bytes RPG you get only 0.10 per reply, but in Spotlight you get 0.35. That is more than three times the amount.
UPDATE: See above.
Q. Can I double post in Spotlight RPG to hurry things along?
A. You should not. You can encourage other users to post replies so that the game can eventually come to an end.
Q. How strict is the GM with the 80 messages / 10 pages?
A. Very, this game needs to be different from Love & Life Bytes, so it has its' own rules, including when it ends.
Q. If two players choose the same profession when signing up to play, how will we tell the difference?
A. The GM makes each character different when he creates them so no two will be alike.
Q. Where do I convert my Luck Points after I win?
A. Go to the Love & life Bytes Board, there is a link there, under the banner.
Q. Can my pet talk to others?
A. No, this is not Stuart Little, however you can say what your pet is thinking.
Q. How do I know when I should add that my pet is thinking something?
A. When you feel it would add to the story, BUT you should only do so after your character has said his/her part first.
Q. Can I post a message just about what my pet is thinking?
A. No, your character must say something first (see above)
Q. Can I make my pet smart?
A. If you like. The idea of having a pet in the game is to enhance your opportunity to win. You might find that your pet gets in the way too, so be careful.
Q. How do I tell which Threads are for Love & Life Bytes RPG and which are for Spotlight RPG?
A. They are labeled in the description with either "Love & Life Bytes RPG" or "Spotlight RPG".
Q. Can I create a character for both Spotlight RPG and Love & Life Bytes RPG?
A. Yes you can so long as you have the relevant Post amounts.
Q. Some past games are not labeled as "Love & Life Bytes RPG" or "Spotlight RPG" why is that?
A. Both RPGs were on separate Boards before and therefore did not have the Threads labeled. Those passed games are closed now so you do not need to worry about Posting in them.
Q. I see both boxes for each Character I made within my Posts, how do I know which Character I'm using in the game?
A. If you are in a Love & Life Bytes Game Thread then you post using the box to the left which has your Love & Life Bytes Character. Conversely when you are in a Spotlight RPG Thread you use the character on the right box.
