Colours + Emotions

I just recently got my room painted three different blues. My mom and my sisters says that blue is a depressing colour. I agree with them, but it depends on the shade of it. What other emotions do you guys think other colours represent?

Well, being that I am always in black I am probably not the best person to comment on this. I do recall having to make a color choice once though...

Morpheus: You take the blue pill and the story ends. You wake in your bed and you believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill and you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit-hole goes.

No I think black is depressing Mr Neo, its just one color and there's no excitment in the color. I think blue is really relaxing!

I always thought blue was relaxing, not depressing? here's a link to an informative site about colors and mood:

How Colors Affect Mood

"Blue- The color blue is associated with calm and relaxation. The color represents peaceful things such as clear blue ocean and blue sky. This color is often appears on the walls of psychiatric and correctional facility walls to provide a soothing effect. Conversely, blue is also associated with masculinity and is the preferred male clothing baby color. In the extreme of calm, in addition to the soothing properties, depression or sadness is also known as "having the blues". Overall the mood is calm and subdued."

My favorite color is green...like deep forest green or what is sometimes called "hunter" green...NOT neon or yellow-green.

"Green- The color green represents rebirth. Being the color of grass, trees and money it signals fertility and (along with gold) wealth. It is a friendly color and many people feel a healing force from this color. It is the color of many industrial uniforms and is attributed to having healing properties, as it is "natural". It sets a mood of nature and growth."

Pastels are calming and deep, bright, bold colors have the opposite effect. Studies have shown that violent prisoners are much calmer and more peaceful when the prison walls are painted pink of all colors. smile.gif

One of my employers painted our breakroom pastel pink, she told us that the color calmed violent prisoners. Every time I took a break I would chuckle, so she thought we needed calming like violent prisoners huh? Maybe so, it was a retail business, and sometimes customers can be nerve racking ~ grrrr.

I prefer pastel neutral shades myself for rooms. Rice paper, off white, antique white.

I painted my room the same day we painted my sister's... it was supose to be sorta a dark pink. But it looks like red. I love it! It's way better than my old white paint that was from when they built the house. I can still smell the paint considering I did paint it a week ago. How long will the smell stay? Oh well.

Offtopic but,
Sorry about the double posting but i couldn't edit the above post.
