QUOTE (Mathman)
Given the environment is not the same, the result is the same.

Oh yeah? spock.gif I do not know about everyone else but I do not see how doing something in the medical field with someone in the nude and going in a nude bar where women are obviously gyrating themselves for ONE purpose alone can give the same result.

I agree with JB. It is not the same. If not, every gynecologist would be excommunicated. spock.gif The guy in the example given, was entering a bar to have fun with some people who are nude. A nurse or a doctor is saving lives. HUGE difference.

An interesting conflict of values.

Me personally, it would not be something I could not do. I know that if I went in once for my job, the temptation would be to go in again later because of what I had seen.

I admit it. I have to stay away from all forms of pornography, because it was a temptation for me when I was in high school for a few years (I suspect most men have had to struggle with it sometimes in their life.) Only after much repentance and struggle did I overcome that temptation at that time (please do not think less of me for this confession).

I do not want, regardless of any commitment I have made to any job, return to a former sin.

And if, in this scenario, I had never seen pornography it would be that much more important for me not to start on that downhill spiral.

Why do you think President Hinkley has said in "Rise Up, O Men Of God

QUOTE

The Lord has declared, "Purge ye out the iniquity which is among you; sanctify yourselves before me" (D&C 43:11). No one can mistake the meaning of those words.

He says further, "The elements are the tabernacle of God; yea, man is the tabernacle of God, even temples; and whatsoever temple is defiled, God shall destroy that temple" (D&C 93:35). There is no equivocation there. The Lord has spoken plainly that we must take care of our mortal body and avoid that which would do it harm.

So, in my own life, I would rather lose my job, then have to face the pain that my Savior took away when he helped me overcome my own weakness.

QUOTE

Ether 12:27
And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them.

Good insight, and no, I for one do not judge you at all, as we all suffer from sin. However this point:

QUOTE (Dbackers)
So, in my own life, I would rather lose my job...

Keep in mind it is not like you are working in a restaurant and you can just quit. In this scenario you are protecting someone. The whole reason you are protecting them is because they are a target. Are you going to quit right there and then? Consider the Secret Service, they cannot choose where some of the people they protect go, but they still have to be there.

Alright,fair question.

I am speaking Hypothetically.

Let's say that I am a Bodyguard in this situation who has worked for this reputable organization for years for famous and infamous individuals. This probably wouldn't be the first time I was asked to do something that goes against a commitment I have made as a member of the the church. If I am working for famous people I have probably been at parties where Cocaine has flowed freely, I would have been at parties where inappropriate sexual behavior has been ramped. If I had been their for years I probably would have been asked to go into a "Nudie' Bar already. If I was a strong member of the Church, then I do not think I would have been a body guard long for the infamous people that one works for in this situation.

The Secret Service I believe is different. A politician in the U.S. that asks his Secret Service to go into a "Nudie" Bar does not have a very long future. Secret Service may be asked to do dangerous things, but I am not sure how often they would be required to do things that are morally questionable. If they did there are people in the government that they can report to to alleviate the situation.

So indirectly based on the Scenario given within the first Message of this Thread you are saying that you will go into the nude bar?

If I was this individual who was as good as you say I was at being a bodyguard for the infamous, unfortunately, I would have entered the Bar. I think I would also be struggling with keeping the commandment to remain morally clean.

If it was me as I am now, I couldn't.

Rather off topic, but...

This to me is a perfect example of the importance of looking ahead when choosing a career that you can rightously follow the comandments. Not every career is conducive to living a Godly life.

"I have worked in a hospital and have had to draw blood from nude females... Would it be appropriate to state maybe the state of mind of the guard and mormon may play a role in this?" - mathman

I think that may be the key. I would assume you, Mathman did not become a porn addict.
My neighbor recently applied for a job as a maid for a resort. It was a nude resort and she was interviewed by a naked man. (Shocker to me! New concept.) If she got the job, she would be expeccted to work in the nude. She does not have a body that I would consider beautiful or attractive, nor do I have any desire to know what is being hidden.
I am sure many of us have seen large people in inappropriate clothes. It isn't attractive and makes me feel sick. The funny thing is that I am the one who has decided what I find sexy and attractive, (my wife, currently thin and beautiful).
In other cultures, large women are very desirable, and thin women are considered sickly looking. So it would seem the decision is ours. Neal A. Maxwell said,
QUOTE
"We set our thermostats as to temptations." - Neal A. Maxwell, ""According to the Desire of [Our] Hearts"," Ensign, Nov 1996,  21

Paul taught, "Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled." Titus 1:15

And Christ said,
QUOTE
"There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man.
    And he saith unto them, Are ye so without understanding also? Do ye not perceive, that whatsoever thing from without entereth into the man, it cannot defile him;
All these evil things come from within, and defile the man." - Mark 7:15, 18, 23

I think the difference between the porn addict and the doctor is the mindset. one is looking for something and the other is not. Both could do the same thing and have a different reaction. If we choose to look for it, then we will find it, and we don't need to go to a nudie bar to find it. If we aren't looking for it, then we will not see it, even in a nudie bar. Instead of seeing attractive women dancing erotically, we will see daughters of God, acting very funny and looking ridiculous. We might even laugh at the idea that what they are doing is supposed to be erotic. In any case, it is definitely our our mindset.
