[b]If the below was genuinely asked of you by your child how would you respond based on your current religious beliefs?
"You can't deny the other side don't want to die anymore than we do What I'm trying to say is don't they pray to the same God that we do? And tell me how does God choose whose prayers does he refuse? Who turns the wheel, who throws the dice on the Day after tomorrow?"
-- Lyrics: Day After Tomorrow - Tom Waits/Kathleen Brennan 2004
Based on what I believe, I would tell my child that all things are the result of the consequences of events and causes. The perceived answer to prayer is simply the end result to causes and effects that where already put into place. You control your surrounding the best you can and sometimes things work the way you want, and sometimes they don't. You make things happen for yourself, don't rely on God to make things happen in your world, take your own initiative.
I would tell my child that God answers all prayers. It doesn't matter who is asking or what religion they are. However, the answer isn't always going to be "yes." Just like parents sometimes have to say no, so does God. He isn't going to take away someone's free will to do bad in order to protect someone else, for example.
He sees the big picture that we do not see. He has an understanding of why things must happen in a particular way. I don't.
