About the Gospel of Q

Some people refer to this as the 'Q' Documents, but what do you think it means? See the below text and site for more info:

Theologians have observed for many decades that two of the synoptic gospels (Matthew, and Luke) have many points of similarity. In fact, the writings have many dozens of phrases and sentences that are identical. This observation led to the theory that both gospels were based largely on an earlier document, which has been lost. It is called "Q" meaning "Quelle," which is German for "source." Various liberal theologians have been able to reconstruct the gospel. Some feel that it was written in three stages:

Q1, written circa 50 CE, which described Jesus as a Jewish philosopher-teacher.
Q2, written during the 60's CE, which viewed Jesus as a Jewish apocalyptic prophet.
Q3, written during the mid 70's during a time of great turmoil in Palestine. Jesus is described as a near-deity who converses directly with God and Satan.

Q Gospel

The document of Q, in my opinion, most likely did exist. Its very hard to believe that the three synoptic gospels would as be so similar yet the fourth would be so extremely different in both content and implication. While Mark comprises allot of Luke and Matthew, Mark does not account for what is in only Luke and Matthew and left out of Mark.

Q would most likely represent, in my opinion, the earliest christian beliefs of the church. You can see the transition from Judaism to what is todays christianity beginning when you read the book of James. It talks more about living the way Jews considered right, but mentions nothing about being saved by grace. Paul was the first one to bring up this type of thinking. James, the leader of the church of Jerusalem, puts more emphasis on your works and the way you live as opposed to salvation and grace of Jesus. In fact, Jesus is only mentioned once, where as Paul continually mentions him because salvation comes purely through faith in Jesus as opposed to living good as the Jews require.

Most scholars believe that christianity immediately following Jesus death was not the same as it is now. Its very obvious to the scholar that allot of what we consider sacred has been tainted with pagan ritual from christmas to easter. You don't have to search very hard to find the similarities between pagan rites and many of the churches beliefs.

Gospel Q could have enlightened us as to what christianity was truly supposed to be, not the trumped up watered down religion that it has become. In my opinion of course.
