This sort of thing always amazes me. You just never can be sure, can you. As long as their is breath and heartbeat, there is hope.
Her doctor has never seen anything like it before.

Recovery Amazing Another
While I agree there is a slim chance that people in these states can come out of them and fully recover, I also believe that the cost of keeping such people alive vs the percentage possibility of them recovering is very lopsided. That is to say, for every 100 people that are kept alive in the hopes of recovering only 1 or 2 will actually do so within a 5 year period. If the cost per year of keeping one person alive is $10000, then after 5 years we would have spent $5 million on 1 or 2 people. These numbers are not actual but an example of the cost per recovery ratio. I don't mean to sound inhumane, but my belief is that sometimes we need to look at things realistically instead of emotionally. I hope I didn't offend anyone by my opinion.

Xander, how much is your wife or child worth? I don't think you can place a $$$ amount on the value of a life. If it is a member of my family, I want them to receive whatever treatment is possible to help them. I don't care what the cost is. I don't think we should allow society to factor cost into treatment, EVER.
These are human lives of which we are speaking. You can't put a pricetag on that, in my opinion. It is easier to put a price on the life of a stranger, but if it is your family member, it is not so easy.
