I believe that I could successfully freelance with bookkeeping, and really any type of office work. However, I don't think there is that much demand for it. I know a couple of ladies who are semi-retired and work part time as bookkeepers for several different clients around town. But I can't imagine making full-time pay at it, because each client needs only a few hours a week of work. I think it would definitely be less pay, in my circumstances. It's something I should investigate further, because I sure would love to be "my own boss."
With my current experience, I could see myself as an IT Consultant for small to medium businesses. I work with server software, and there is always a need for businesses to expand and/or upgrade. The problem would be getting these businesses to consider me over the server manufacturer (which is the company I am working for now). My company already has an established name in the industry; I would have to work on establishing such a name and possibly try to initially compete by offering a lower price model. It wouldn't be easy, but I guess it is possible.
