I'm not sure what I expected, but not this. My husband always teases me about how I pronounce words. He calls it Wyomingese.

This lass thinks the test is odd. Some of the questions, I had to say out loud before I knew how I "pronounced" things. I wasn't sure. I don't know. I've never been to the upper midwestern and have only been in dixie-country in travel. Wow.

Well, my Linguistic Profile was:

55% General American English
30% Yankee
10% Dixie
5% Midwestern
0% Upper Midwestern

Wow, that really surprised me! I don't know where all the other influences have come from, as I have lived in the UK all my life.
It was fun to take the quiz though!

I haven't even heard of some of these terms so I am not sure how valid this test was, but it was fun.

Well, I live in the Virginia/DC area, so General American English is pretty much standard here. I suppose Virginia, being a (albeit barely) southern state, I suppose some "Dixie" vocabulary might enter into conversation. Perhaps some of the vocabulary came from my grandma, who lived in Alabama but moved to Utah later in life (and no, she doesn't have a Southern accent). My mom lived in New York all her life, and thus, probably brought some of the "Yankee" dialect into my home, but she moved to Utah and lost her sharp New England accent there smile.gif

Interesting. I've never been in the Upper Midwest, but I did date a fellow once who said I sounded like I was from Minnesota. Go figure. I've lived on the West Coast most of my life.
